Sounds to me more like you were treated badly by previous owners. Doing exactly what you advocate doing: aware of a problem but trade it in and remain silent knowing that whoever inherits your problem will just blame the dealer for selling them a lemon.
Nope, im definitely speaking of shady ass treatment by dealers on new vehicles.

Im not telling the dealer anything. Its a car im trading in. If you dont identify a problem, thats not my fault.

If there is an obvious issue, like a failed cam or rocker causing a tick, bottom end knock, etc - that is what it is. I'll take that lick. Im not going to offer up a noise that you can also hear with your ears, or some intermittent problem that only happens on Sunday when I drive for an hour.

We traded in a vehicle once with an engine light on. They asked about it, we told them what we know. Otherwise, I plead the 5th.

If I am personally selling you my Camaro SS as an individual, I will tell you the lights in the volume button periodically dont work and sometimes you have to press the trunk button a couple times to get it to pop, and the driver mirror heat doesnt seem to work as well as the passenger. Yes. Im going to treat you differently as an individual than im gonna treat the dealer 🤷

Take it as a lesson and dont buy a used car i guess, lol. Idk what to tell you šŸ˜‚

I say that tongue and cheek as I have bought three used vehicles that were free of any major issues, one is the Camaro i still have.

Caveat Emptor. They live by that saying as well so I have never disclosed anything when trading in a vehicle. 9/10 they are going to look at it and give you a ball park to start negotiating from unless you just say yes to the first thing they offer. I’ve gone both ways. I’ve gotten them to budge if they super low ball it and I’ve given in when I know the car isn’t 100% and they make a halfway decent offer the way it is.

Let them assess your trade value. They should value you it accordingly. They ain’t losing any money on you. Don’t sweat it. Just be excited - Congrats on the new Jeep!

Most dealerships (large and small) have an appraiser on site, it’s their job to evaluate your trade in and establish a number to the sales pukes or their to their controller. Most times they will not let you dialogue with them. If sales is trying to beat your trade in down, with a short list from the appraiser, just simply tell them, So? Most of them won’t know what to say because it’s not in their wheelhouse to make a judgement on the list, they’re focused on closing the deal. My personal favorite thing to say as you stand up to leave isā€¦ā€You don’t even want to sell a car todayā€ That is without pause the harshest statement you can make to a car dealer. After every time I’ve used it, I’ve walked away with a much better deal, regardless of the condition of my trade. Say nothing about your trade, period.

You sound like an absolute nightmare to deal with. Saying derogatory terms about the sales staff speaks volumes and and then saying the cringiest thing you could possibly say at a car dealership. I bet you’re fun at parties.

Yep and Yep, my job for thirty years was to separate fools from their money, and I was good at it. The focus for a successful deal is to know how their business works and put that knowledge to the test.

Did Jeep disclose to you that the new 0W20 oil spec was purely to save themselves money by reducing EPA fines, and that said oil spec would wipe out your valvetrain shortly out of warranty? No? Then F 'em. Trade it in and act like nothing happened.
So what oil do you recommend?

I run the original spec, 5W30, in all my P-star engines. This is also still the current spec in other countries. All my P-stars have been flawless, including my 202,000 mile 2020 Grand Cherokee.

Australia calls for 0W20 in the Gladiator.

Didn't look too hard in Europe, but their website showed the Wrangler only, paired with the 2.0 / auto.

Anyway - not a debate about oil. I think the engine would be fine either way, just an observation.
