I gave $39,900 for my truck two winters ago. Dealer here offering $47,000 and Vroom offering $44,000. It's nuts right now. If you want to trade right now is the time!
OP: you got me wondering whether I should upgrade to a rubi or Mojave...

Question for that group regarding kbb and putting in the max tow package. It appears that’s not an option? So how do I calculate that?

I have 2020 max tow, windows tinted to match, added mopar aluminum side steps, 2” iron rock spacer lift, complete rubi take off except max tow springs, 19 black mopar rubicon rims w 34 wildpeaks, w matching 5th wheel and tire, bed liner, soft bed cover, CMM mirrors, red arc pro brake controller, mopar mud liners, other small stuff like LEDs, stubby antenna and grab handles.... wonder what it’s worth or what I could get for it?

I would first get quotes from Carvana, Vroom and maybe Carmax. They are paying over KBB. I got $5k or so more than KBB or a trade in. Even with the tax savings on a trade in, Carvana was much better. Sold 2018 JLU for same price I paid for it (before tax, tags, fees).

Then compare quotes with a trade in and do the math. A lot of dealers are sticking to sticker price so think about ordering a sold order for 5-8% under invoice. That's how I got into my Mojave.
Where can I find info on sold orders?

I think this has got to be the reality of the situation. Why in the world would a dealer give me essentially MSRP for an old car and sell me a new one on their lot without charging the same premium? There is no gain for them.
Because your vehicle isn’t waiting on chips.

I just sold my 2019 4Runner to Carvana. They offered $2200 over original MSRP and $4700 over what I paid for it 16 months ago. Their offer started at 37.5k and ended up at 43.2k. I kept reappraising it as I waited for my order to come in.

I ordered my Gladiator and ended up about 7 1/2% under invoice. I got lucky but it worked out very well in my case.

I actually ended up reappraising with Vroom as a backup and their offer went up almost 6k. Ended up being $500 higher than Carvana but i had the pickup scheduled same day so i just closed the Carvana deal.

With the Max tow. Aren't you almost basically a Rubicon? You have the wider axles without the lockers, but you get an Anti Spin. You will have less towing capabilities with the Rubicon.

It really depends if you need the Rubicon and you can get one at the right price with the options you want. If you make a little bit of money. It might cover the taxes / doc fees. Here in CA. That's like 5k+ alone.

Not nuts here in upper Midwest. I’ve plugged in Sport S, Overland, Rubicon on a 2020 trade and all values came back about what you’d expect with 2 yrs depreciation.

Not so in Michigan. I traded my Sport for a rubicon and the dealer sold my old truck in two weeks after the trade.
Nuts!

All lightly used vehicles are seeing value increases, but pickup trucks in general are seeing the biggest gains. Guys NEED trucks. Trucks aren't simply appliances; people who buy them use them for work. Here in KY, a pickup truck is like a child to a guy.

The dealers are selling every truck they get in less than a week, sometimes in a single day.

The dealer appraisals on my Ram 1500 have gone from $39,000 at the end of 2020 to $47,000 today and I have reason to believe it may still be going up.

Meanwhile, 2021 models are still being sold at the prices that were set on them months ago, which means the ratio of trade-in value to new purchase value is the best for the consumer right now that it ever has or likely will be.

It's both. I'm going through the same thing as a 3D artist. I don't want one of the highest end video cards, I need 4 of them to run a business but it also happens to be how crypto currency mining is done so I can't find a single one anywhere approaching MSRP because now kids are running around buying up every card at retail outlets and reselling them to miners at 200% markup.

For trucks, there's a need for fleet vehicles, independent contractors, some homeowners even have an actual need for trucks as living rural can bring with it some extreme hauling needs. All those businesses/needs are competing with Trump/Biden bucks sloshing around and making it so the other end of the market, "Woooooooooooo mud, rocks and dust!" (or bling) is eating up all the supply. (speaking of supply, still hampered).

I'm purely speculating here, but I keep getting emails from Kelly Blue Book that my 2020 JT is increasing in value. Right now, it says a fair trade-in value is $44k. I paid $45k for it after tax, fees & warranty. In theory, if I could find a dealer willing to trade in for $44k, I could upgrade to a Rubicon or Mojave (which I'm a bit sad I didn't get in the first place) without losing really any money.

This seems too good to be true, but I know that the used car market is not sane right now, and part of me is feeling like I need to take advantage of it, somehow! Any thoughts on this? Would any dealer actually make that trade, to buy my used 2020 for $44k and sell me a brand new Rubicon for the difference?
Remember your insurance and Registration will go up

My Carvana buyout offer is $9500 more than what I paid 1 year ago for a Gladiator Sport with Employee Pricing.

2025 Rubicon Mojito. Previously -2020 Gobi Sport S (Max Tow)
ive honestly debated doing this with my Gobi S Max to a Sarge Rubicon. If mojito was out, i would instantly. I am just afraid that even though i may do good on trade, the purchase of the new one would also have less play with the way the market is currently.
