It's an LF antenna, part of the system that detects your key fob and its location inside or just outside the truck.

I took @FC1 lead and went with the redarc system. I found a model made for the JT that utilizes the factory position and plan on relocating the 12v to the passenger side of the center console. Excited to get it installed. Been installing brakes on my trailer while waiting for Amazon to get necessary items to me. Also will install the missing aux buttons that the factory forgot to put in my JTRD.

Also went with the Redarc liberty brake controller. Easy install and works very well (trailer is ePro 19fds, 3,500 lbs dry). Plenty of mtn descents (9k ft) with no issues.

I use the Echo with a Mercedes ML 350 and Honda Ridgeline. It is great for multiple tow vehicles so I also recommend it. I just installed a Curt Spectrum in the ‘41 Edition Willys we just got because I expect the Gladiator to be our primary tow vehicle. I have not yet towed a trailer with brakes since installing it.

In my opinion, the only drawbacks to the Echo are the need to keep the phone app running to be able to manually apply the trailer brakes and the weight of the unit hanging on the 7-pin connector for long-term use. The rubber strap broke on mine so I use a strip of velcro to support it

installation of the Spectrum is plug-and-play with the correct adapter cable (51526 or 51527) that plugs into the OEM connector located under the dash on the left side. I mounted the main module to the lower dash frame below the steering wheel and the control knob to the plastic panel (see photos attached).

I considered the Jeep OEM controller, but the dealer told me it was backordered with no estimated delivery date and I did not want to remove the 12V outlet.

you ever worry that the app will stop updating or what happens in 20 yrs?

I don’t really worry about the app because it functions locally without needing a server somewhere (after initial setup). Also, the brake controller functions with its last programmed setting without the app. I have programmed settings saved for several different vehicle/trailer combinations so the app needs to connect via Bluetooth to select the desired setting (if not using the last configuration used).

I am not one to blindly install every app update and have never updated this app after the initial setup. The controller and app work well with the limitations I noted previously and I will continue to use it with any vehicle that does not have an installed controller. It is not compatible and cannot be used on a vehicle with an installed controller (must use the installed controller).
