Transmission fluid change - quantitiy

I changed my trans filter and fluid. It only took about 5 quarts. I saw a youtube that said 6 quarts. I was wondering what other folks results were. I already recycled the oil so I don't have that for a reference.

I have seen some get 5.25-6.5 out of em it does very by how much drains back into the pan. The most important thing is that after getting up to temp doing the shifts and then leaving it run when you take the plug out that it just starts to trickle out. Make sure your setting level when checking this level. Don't check it above 120 or below 86 degrees Fahrenheit . The transmission temperature in the dash can be used to determine you are in the range to check this fluid level.

Drain, drop pan, remove filter, clean pan, replace filter , change gasket, replace pan, fill pan. Till it comes out the hole stick plug in. Start engine follow shift procedure and rpm revolutions levels. ,when temp gets to minimum warmth allowed then leave it running undo plug and add just till it starts trickling out of the drain plug, reinstall plug . Done.

Varies a bit. As long as you followed the directions, got it to the correct temperature and so on.......

It will depend on how much drains out of things - including the converter, how long it sat before you pulled the pan, several factors.

Done it twice on two different Gladiators. One took 5.5 quarts and the other 6.5 quarts.

The amount that comes out from a fill/level plug removal and also pan drop and filter change is going to depend on how long the vehicle sits before starting as the fluid slowly drains back out of the torque converter and back into the main sump and valve body area. Sitting overnight cold is going to get the maximum amount out.

If you followed the fill procedures and did the initial fill and recheck at temp and added or let out of the fill/level plug, you are fine.

I try to buy as much as I can (odds and ends) from them - a lot cheaper than local, but still a genuine dealership presence in the grand scheme of things (not to mention Benny is worth his weight in gold)

IIRC, the filter was relatively cheap getting from Benny but the MOPAR 8/9 Speed ATF fluid was not.

Might be the shipping? I've bought oils and fluids on Amazon for the last few years so never compared fluids with his prices, oddly enough.

Yeah, I do not know what the trick or difference is on why some dealers can ship fluids for next to no cost and others cannot or will not?

I have shopped around Amazon and Ebay also for OEM fluids just making sure I am getting them from a legit source.
