Anyone using Royal Purple trans fluid? Planing on changing my trans oil before the summer Temps climb here in the south. Going to add one of those deep pans. Considering the RP fluid. Anyone have any thoughts?? Thanks for any advice.⁸

Why? Any data showing that it's better than the factory fluid?. If not, stick with OEM or ZF fluids. Any recommendations from the forum for non factory fluid are just opinions with no scientific testing done.

Definitely don’t. You don’t want to mix fluids. Not worth the risk. Not even a little bit.

Royal Purple does make some pretty good fluids in my opinion but probably overkill for a Jeep. I used to run it in my RB25det( was an RB 28det by the time I was done). That was boosted running 525 HP. It performed very well but that was for higher performance than you’ll probably ever see in a Gladiator.

It doesn’t matter if it’s good or bad. With the tranny, the issue is mixing more than one formula. You’re only draining 5-7 quarts of the 9 that are in there. And don’t flush it to try to solve that. Debris often gets moved from the cooler into the tranny and craters it in relatively few miles. There are several threads talking about not mixing tranny fluid. Just use the mopar stuff and don’t overthink it.

My advice is to stick with OE, but your book does allow for an “equivalent” ATF can be used. The only authority on whether or not RP is equivalent is to contact ZF in Germany via email or message them through their website and ask, or look into the list they provide of equivalent oil. I can 100% guarantee that RP is not on that list nor will ZF approve of RP being used.

There is nothing wrong with using the spec’d 8/9 Speed ATF other than the cost is a few bucks more and for a pan drop, you’re only picking up 6-7 quarts anyway. Don’t risk it if you have warranty.

Even Amsoil has their data sheet spec’d “equivalent” ATF for this 850RE transmission and their sheet specifies to “use their ATF” if the transmission is listed on their sheet. But at the end of the day ZF will deny AMSOIL as equivalent. Don’t be caught with your pants down, just use the OE.

But… if you’re not convinced by everyone so far saying don’t do it, and if you’re banking on RP having your 6 if mechanical performance goes sideways on you, you NEED to call RP and ask how “warranty secure” you are using their ATF if there’s a mechanical/pump failure after RP goes in. Do they require proof your transmission is operating at 100%, do they require inspection, do they require an oil analysis?

You've got some homework to get hard data, not opinions from our couches. Non of us will be there for you to bail you out if things go sideways.

I ment OE.
That’s your best bet. Save the RP use for high performance stuff. Like when you decide the Gladiator needs to go to Top Truck!! Then it makes sense to do a complete drain of transmission and transfer case and everything. :like:

Hello After taking to my mechanic friend, I would suggest you use Mopar Trans oil. He did some some comparisons to other trans oil specks, found some other bands do not meet Jeep specks.
