You're not going to offend me... You should remember, I'm a Constitutionalist Conservative...Not necessarily a Republican...They're just as spineless and nutless as the Democrats and Liberals are evil and anti-freedom. 2 sides of the same coin. I'm not Trump's biggest fan...But I do love his trolling. He is top-notch at pissing off the anti-American Dems/Libs and making them go ape-shit with 1 simple sentence, so I do respect him for that. ;)

Seriously though...I am glad to see some of yall posting again...I think we can all rib a bit without getting personal (hopefully this time). In the end, we're all still Gladiator enthusiasts, right? :like:
Yep to all points. We are all patriots on this forum, of that I'm sure. And we all love jeep trucks. Not sure we need anything else. God, family, country. Anyways, you broke the ice and for that I am grateful. I'm hoping the repub voters will play possum and vote (so it can't be altered), but vote independent (wouldn't ask them to vote dem). We need to throw out those who stood by while these R fools sold us out. We need to put people before capitalism (it aint socialism, it's a prudent safety net), and we need to move to center. I love my crazies, cause they will protect the borders and we need them on that wall. But the fringe needs to focus on the wall (R) or whatever identity group they are for (D) and stop thinking they inform anything Central to governance, certainly not questioning decent Americans (faux news, men, cnn) whose interests do not intersect with fringe politics. My opinions, as a lifelong pragmatic Arizona Independent. Back to jeep trucks, I love em. Can't live without 'em. Must have 'em.

i can't believe you would question experts who say the Cadillac truck has a higher place among trucks. What are you? A F'in purist? Cadillac trucks are second only to jeep trucks. My options!

Damn-straight! A truck is a truck, and it has a separate cab & bed...The ONLY acceptable exception to the rule is an AEV Brute conversion...Because it started life as a Jeep. :like:

1. Jeep Truck (original vintage Willy's, Gladiator, JTruck, J8, Scrambler, Comanche)
1.*Jeep Gladiator 2020.
2. Hmmm. Brute
3. Pick'em.

I pick that Caddy #3. Almost bought one. Still might import that Deluxe interior to my jeep. Then again I loved my Chevy S-10.

But nothing like a Jeep truck!

We're an Acura family with 2 active boys and I coach several of their teams. I needed a truck. I looked at the Ridgeline and it baffles me how Honda doesn't get what "truck" buyers want. I loved the fact that it was just like our MDXs, but I didn't want it to "look" like an SUV. The 1st gen RL was much more in line with truck desirability (no knock intended Pleeease).

One of my closest friends has a Tesla S, BMW X7, and a JK Wrangler. All he talks about is his Jeep. His daughters cried when he talked about selling it (he's not). I'm a car guy, so I know the pros/cons of owning a Jeep, but I quickly fell in love with the Gladiator.

Honestly, if I could fit a F150 Raptor in my garage (and my wallet), I'd be driving a Raptor. But IMO, there's nothing that comes close in the medium size truck market to the Gladiator. It's a truck that's also a Jeep, a convertible, and is very unique in the crowded truck market.

:jk:
I like the Gladiator, though it's obviously a very different type of machine vs. my Ridgeline. Both good for their purposes IMO.

It's my second RL, and I did re-look at what's on the market, and even drove an F150 to check out something different. Might've looked at the Gladiator but really wasn't interested in paying that much for what for me is mostly a utility vehicle. Again, different trucks/different purposes.

"What truck buyers want" really does depend on the truck buyer - the range of wants and needs is wide.

If I was practical and didn't want a convertible, I would so have a Ridgeline. My son has one, cabin is immense and what other truck has a trunk.
It's the convertible aspect of the Gladiator that caught my attention, but my wife does have a very nice ragtop already. We had an '07 Ridgeline that was fantastic, and when I started considering a new truck my wife said "By now you're kind of addicted to having a truck with a trunk", and she was right - didn't want to give that up.

Had a fun and fancy Grand Cherokee Overland with the hemi until about a year ago, and 90% enjoyed the experience/10% not good (two air suspension system replacements; 'nuff said).

I looked at the RL a looong time. We've owned many Acuras and I *really* wanted to like the Ridgeline.

Honda Corp. (auto) has its core platforms and powertrains and while that works for its core models (Civic, Accord, CR-V, Pilot, RDX, TLX, MDX), the outlier products that utilize core or modified core mechanicals suffer. Products like the Honda Insight and Acura RLX miss the mark because they don't stray enough from the core.

IMO, the Ridgeline is another example.

I say this knowing that the RL is selling fairly decent given Honda's modest expected sales numbers. It sold 33,000 last year (2019); a far cry from Tacoma's roughly 250K, but not bad. The problem is that if Honda just went a little further in moving the needle away from the Pilot, it could really be a hit.

We all know the Ridgeline is basically a Pilot with a cargo bed. Great interior, tried and true 3.5L V6 with AWD. That all works. The problem is that it "looks" like a Pilot because it basically has the same front end. And if you want to put a decent set of truck wheels and tires, forget about it. The 5 x 120mm bolt pattern has limited "truck" options and any decent size tire (33"+) will rub even with a lift. Lift options are very limited as well.

But Pleease, you're right, there are a lot of different types of truck buyers with different tastes, but I think Honda could have reached more into Tacoma tastes than Pilot tastes to have a real hit on its hands.

I guess I'm rooting and expect more from Honda, but I suppose this is all for naught because I love my Gladiator :sun: :jk: :sun:
