Good afternoon,

I‘m going to be rebuilding my Dana 44s for 38s. I want to install front/rear axle truss, Chromoly axles, Diff covers, driveshaft and 5.38 gears. I know there’s 2 main companies for gears Yukon/revolution, but I also see Dana aftermarket offers gears/ chromoly axles. Does anyone have a preference in what parts to go with ?Going to be my first time building the Dana 44 so I would appreciate any help !

Can't really comment except that for 38s, 5.38 ratio is way too high. 5.13s are more than enough.

Motive gears all the way…. Their shafts are good too- great warranty if things happen- fad delete ???
artech for the truss.

As far as ratios I have always thought the pinion head looks a bit too small after 5.13’s…. But the added tq is probably nice with the 5.38’s. Easy on the skinny pedal and it should be fine.

Might consider 1310 joints on the drive shaft vs 1350s for the weak link.

Gears......anything but Yukon. Too much hit or miss with them.
Axles shafts. Front RCV's. Had them on my Power Wagon. Rear, Dana.
Driveshafts. Woods, Adams....

Spend a little extra and get RCV axle's for the front and Dana for the gears

5.38 is not too high numerically.

RPM will be 2,300-2,400 at 70 MPH in 8th gear.

I did RCV's with fad for the front and Revolution Chromoly axle shafts for the rear. Artec front axle truss and 4.88 Yukon gears (early install about all they had out at the time), but I have a 5.7 Hemi. With the V6, no less than 5.13, could probably get away with 5.38. At 75 mph that puts you at 2390 rpms with 5.38's.

I just had to switch out my Yukon’s for revolution they had a terrible wine and ate up the rear pinion bearings. I have 5.13’s on 37’s and I would say it will definitely be more than enough no need for 5.38’s I probably would run the 5.13’s with 40’s
