A few even opted to later install proximity locks, auto headlights, remote start and so on to models that didn't have such things.............That's what everyone says... but nobody actually buys. The wrangler was available with a tiny 5" screen base radio, manual windows, manual tranny, etc as base as you can get (tpms is mandated now, as are airbags, abs, etc) and nobody bought them. Even half the old school Jeepers arguing for these stripped models on the JL forum when actual pressed for what they bought drive loaded up Rubicons. Nobody was buying them so more and more options became standard simply to simplify the build process. The idea that a modern vehicle with computer controlled engine and transmission will be more reliable because you put a base radio and manual windows in it is borderline insanity. Everything that matters and could leave you stranded is still computer controlled and dependent on sensors and wiring, but you get to crank the window down and pretend it's the 80s? Hard pass, and the vast majority of buyers passed on that idea which is why it's now gone.
