That's what everyone says... but nobody actually buys. The wrangler was available with a tiny 5" screen base radio, manual windows, manual tranny, etc as base as you can get (tpms is mandated now, as are airbags, abs, etc) and nobody bought them. Even half the old school Jeepers arguing for these stripped models on the JL forum when actual pressed for what they bought drive loaded up Rubicons. Nobody was buying them so more and more options became standard simply to simplify the build process. The idea that a modern vehicle with computer controlled engine and transmission will be more reliable because you put a base radio and manual windows in it is borderline insanity. Everything that matters and could leave you stranded is still computer controlled and dependent on sensors and wiring, but you get to crank the window down and pretend it's the 80s? Hard pass, and the vast majority of buyers passed on that idea which is why it's now gone.
A few even opted to later install proximity locks, auto headlights, remote start and so on to models that didn't have such things.............

And I always struggle to understand why these are compared to any other mid sized truck ever. They’re wranglers and pickups combined. I bought it because I wanted a wrangler that could tow better than a wrangler. Other than that, it’s a toy that pretends to be a truck. I couldn’t be happier. It was never meant to be a serious truck. It’s meant to be a fun one.
Along those lines ,And adding to what Papa said . I had a Big 2015 Diesel when I first started in the oil and gas industry . It did horrible off road . Get it in grass and you was sunk it was sooo friggin heavy in the front end 4350#'s thats almost the weight of this entire truck. The overall weight of my diesel was 7,200 pounds. I need a niche vehicle. It turns around in a small area. Try turning a diesel 2500 around in a dozer blade width road.. try going up a 20% grade in a 2500 disel ..aint happening stock.
Hobo is right its a blast ,I love upgrading it and adding extras to make it all it can be . NO OTHER vehicle has more aftermarket parts and upgrades than a Jeep PERIOD. You can buy the tiniest bolt for these . It isnt like that with other brands. There is some but not even close to what we enjoy.
Hi, My names Stan and I am a Biased Jeep addict doomed to never recover.

Isn't the payload for Glady 1 ton? Isn't that best in class? What isn't modern? - Its a JEEP its an affordable offroad rec TRUCK that you can drive on road - also let me know any other VEHICLE that has unlimited aftermarket mods that Wrangler and Glad have? Way I look at it, Jeep is the best because you can make it what you want - if you complain over something you bought - you're an idiot and didn't do enough research stop crying or trying to make headlines or "Rush Limbaugh" for attention. - I mean put the powertrain you want in it, change the dash to what you want. Put in the work if you don't like it. - And that can even mean you talking to the manufacturer and them seeing the value of your input. They make the things how they make em as they are obviously selling or they would adjust....etc.

Not trying to be mean just trying to comprehend what was the point? You the consumer can just move on, or better yet you make your dream car and sell it to the masses so I can buy one from you if I like it....etc.
Payload varies from 950-1200 a ton is 2000

I thought Sport with Max Tow Package got up to 1750# and so in their commercial and site they state "1 ton, best in class* " with that little asterisk.

That's a stripped max tow with no options.Add anything and that drops.
So at best, a tad over 3/4 ton for some.
But it does allow them to legally say it,with the "when properly equipped"

Glad that your good!! But many people including myself feel like they can do a bit more. The current CEO BOB needs to get his head out of his ass and stop it with just new colors BS.
Agreed, I hate special editions that are nothing more than a graphics package.

The Kei truck owners would beg to differ with you. People are going nuts importing them as fast as they can.
Try telling the guys spending $30K (and more) on Square body single cab Chevys... $50K for a clean, lifted Crew Cab.....

While I agree nobody really wants manual windows, but the real problem is that they still insist on charging 50K+ prices when offering the stripped down versions. THAT'S why they don't sell.

I will say, I saw a restomodded Chevy that used window cranks connected to switches to operate the power windows. That was gorgeous

When hunting for my Gladi, I purposely looked for one with the 5 inch screen and Uconnect 4. I don't want it to have any connectivity with the outside world. Nothing connected to the net is loyal... (Excuse me while I get my tin foil hat adjusted)

I really wanted a Mojave - but the payload just wasn't doing it for me.

Mine is stickered at 1,471 pounds.

I have put 800 pounds of pavestone brick in the bed, behind my tool box (so in the back three feet of the bed) and hooked my trailer up with the lawn mower and the bump stops still had light under them

I think, to your point - a lot is cost.

Personally, I am not buying anything with roll up windows, manual mirrors, and without a touch screen radio that I have to drive daily to and from work, running my errands, etc. As it is I'm spoiled and get annoyed when I have to use the keys to start my '15 Camaro instead of pushing a button.

But, if you offered that at low enough price - perhaps you'd find some customers. Some folks are into that.

I do like a stripped down vehicle - but only as a toy or a run around. Me and the ole lady really want a no-frills mid 1970's Ford long bed to run around in when the kids aren't home and we are going on our Sunday jaunts around town. No witchcraft in it, no expensive parts, and maybe even keep it carbureted.

Oh - and if Ford makes the New, modern Australian Ford Ranger Super Duty available in the United States, it will be over for the Gladiator! Done - send it to the Jeep Truck graveyard.
Does the ford have a live axle upfront?Like the jeep, or does it have the bronco front suspension..... if it's the latter, it will never replace the jeep

I respect your opinion, but don’t agree. Solid axles favor off road capability instead of safety and comfort on the road. Removable roofs and doors serve no purpose but fun, and add significant cost. The shape has nothing to do with fuel economy or payload. They shape it like a jeep and know that it will sell. Short beds with no options for long beds like the competition. The only thing that makes it comparable is that it technically, is a truck. In my opinion. If I wanted a reliable mid sized truck for good prices, I’d buy a Colorado and choose the interior trim I wanted. These are marketed towards adventurers, not people that want to put 4x8 plywood in the back. Yes, I know you can. That’s why I mentioned it.
I might agree with you on the roof and the cost, but the doors are just a hinge. It's a minimal cost to make removable doors
