Does the ford have a live axle upfront?Like the jeep, or does it have the bronco front suspension..... if it's the latter, it will never replace the jeep

You could put IFS in the Wrangler and Gladiator tomorrow and they'd still sell just fine.

They're both out sold in their segments by IFS vehicles.

This is a wild take on this forum - but if they had IFS and otherwise looked the same, I mean I'd probably still buy one at this point in my life. I'm driving a stock truck on 33s for three years now and that's still working fine for me

I hate to break it to you, but those that buy Wranglers and Gladis for the solid axle and off road capability are a small portion of the market. If they had IFS they'd still sell just the same, because Becca doesn't care about solid axle to get to Starbucks and get ducked. She cares about being able to remove the top and it being a "different" vehicle.

It’s in the same class, but I don’t know why customers would ever compare it to any of the other ones there. It stands alone. Buy it or don’t. But don’t buy it because it’s a comparison between a Colorado, ranger, or ridgeline. The Honda is a truck. I just happen to hate it aesthetically.

I can agree with what you're saying. The 2028 Ram Dakota will compete with the Ranger, Colorado, Canyon, and Tacoma. Even though the Gladiator is a midsize truck, it is more of a hybrid between utilitarian, adventure, trail, and sport. As with all things, some people will also use the Gladiator as a daily driver, which is fine, but that's not what it was intended for. In many ways, I hope the Gladiator continues the way it is (sharing the same body/cab as the Wrangler).

By the way, I'm a sucker because I'll buy pretty much any Dodge, Ram, Jeep, or Chrysler with a diesel!

If only they made a grand cherokee with IFS... why would they give up sales to real off roaders in order to compete with products they already sell? The real suckers are the ones that bought the Bronco or 4runner for hard off road use. They'll put 3x as much into trying to build it enough to keep up with the JL or JT only to find out they still can't. And the reliability goes out the window when wheeled hard. Nobody buying off road vehicles cares if your 4runner is reliable in the Starbucks drive through. How reliable is it in 37s after a trip through the Rubicon? Nobody cares if it rides or handles a little better on road when the tie rods fold in half off road. You know what's far more reliable at Starbucks and out handles anything Ford makes? My son's civic SI... but I don't want to copy is suspension for my Jeep thanks.

I think the off roaders are a bigger share of the market than you think. Saying they'd sell the same implies it's less than 1%. Might only be 10-15% of buyers, but a 15% sales drop is massive.

My only complaint is that every 3 out of 4 I test drive you can hear the electric power steering pump over the engine sound, I wonder why not a full electric pump couldn't be used.

They will still sell the same. Even if offroaders make up 20% of the market, 100% of those buyers aren't going to drop Jeep as an option just because it no longer had a solid front axle. Even with IFS the Jeep is going to be a very capable off road platform, with far more aftermarket off road support, and a cult following to boot. The only ones who would stop buying are the salty cranky stubborn "I hate change har har har" types, and no vehicle manufacturer is concerned about 10% of the 10% of the 10%.

The only reason we still have solid axle fronts is because its Jeep and that's been one of "the things" about the Wrangler. As soon as it becomes more beneficial from a manufacturing and financial or sales standpoint to switch to IFS they'll probably do so, and after 5 years the off road crowd will stop complaining.
