I didn’t catch it. It failed catastrophically…luckily I was only going 30 and in town, so the only casualty was the tire. I pulled over immediately and put on the spare.
I’ve seen similiar damage on a dry rotted tire before but there’s stuff going on on the entire tire right there. I’ve never seen one “wrinkle” laterally like that on the sidewall. Do you have any further pictures? I’d be looking for “DOT ####” I see the place of manufacture on there but don’t see the date of manufacture. First 2 digits tell the week and second 2 tell the year of manufacture. You may have had them on the vehicle for 3 years, but how long did the shop have them on the shelf?
Good chance you ran over something in the road that you didn't see... happened to me several years ago with a tire less than a month old. In my case I found the offending piece of metal after walking back a hundred yards or so.
Nope. April 2023. I dunno. That’s just a weird occurrence I guess. At least now you have justification to get some new shoes!! “But Honey!!!! If that tire failed what’s to say the other ones won’t fail too!!!”
