Went to finish up the locker sensor replacement and install the new Spicer nodular iron differential covers. I decided to use the bolts that came with the covers. Was following the procedure I've done before using new bolts, first pass to 16 Nm / 12 ft. lbs., and then the second pass to 35 Nm / 26 ft. lbs. Bolt number 11 snapped off on the second pass.

Removed all of the other bolts and the cover, and was able to get vise grips on the snapped off bolt and remove it before the pre-applied thread locker set up. This is the one that snapped.

I suspect it isn't of the highest quality. Since I've come to expect things to go wrong, I had the Mopar replacement bolts available and used those to install both front and rear covers.

I just do 3 rounds of a star pattern on those, but no torque wrench. Just feel. Those are too weak. As long as the gasket is evenly compressed and it’s tight with no leaks, you’re good in my opinion. Glad you got it out.

Not really to the gladiator, more for. I finally got the gantry crane out of the living room and reassembled in the garage. The jeep fits under it fine, and it’s finally a useful tool for projects out there. Projects like removing the hard top for the first time I hope.

Looks like Poison Spider. Love that trail. I'll take a bashed hitch skid plate any day over anything else getting mashed.

Yes sir you are correct! I walked right up that obstacle while 2 or 3 four door wranglers winched up it in front of me.

been a long day cleaned up some of the garage so i could get to my press and work bench in prep to install my torq locker up front .........
I jinxed myself! ziped off the nut to the tie rod and tie rod dropped, just droped I said to my wife , "wow its so nice working on a new rig" and that was when shit went south ....
Rotors were already rusted on, wire on a air tool and some PB blaster took care of that.
Next tool that came with the locker to take the FAD axle c-clip out was crap, but a couple screw driver and a pair of pliers out it came.
Now I'm stuck carrier won't come out . tried the wrench on a ring gear bolt and turn the pinion, nothing... little pry with some rubber mallet tap... nothing put back on hit and pry nothing ..

I'm stuck done a few 44's never had this happen put lunch box lockers in toys and zuks time for beer!

I have the DANA nodular iron covers also. The covers are made in India and I also suspect the hardware is also and maybe not the strongest. Also, if reusing the factory gasket and not the included RTV, the bolts are a bit short and need to be about 5mm longer.

This also reminds me that I need to repaint the hitch skid for this year's road trip trail run. I don't have the luxury of close trails now, so it gets forgotten frequently, sitting in the garage.

I mounted 2 Harbor Freight 3800 series waterproof storage boxes to my rack today. Got them on sale last week, both for $75 after tax. My only concern is how much they will fade in the FL sun, but at that price not to concerned. I did wipe them with 303 protectorate, which I have used on my kayaks for years with good results, and will reapply on a regular basis.

Chopped the frame on my JT for the Motobilt bed. I ran into a bit of an issue with fitment of the intercooler reservoir but if I move the exhaust turn downs before the axle and center the tank while moving it forward I think I will have JUST enough space.... I'm done for today, I'll leave that for another day.

Coming up on 2 years with mine, they are still my favorite tire. I've used them in Colorado snow and granite boulders, South Texas Boca Chica beach sand and the red rocks of Moab.

YES!!! I’ve had mine since July of 21 and the hard top has never been off. Front doors and sunrider open is as far as I’ve gotten it. I need to though.

My project today is to get the gantry crane out of the living room. It’ll be handy in the garage, and I’m totally using for this first.
the hard top is not heavy at all, awkward maybe.
