Returned from the first long distance (600+km) trip. Round trip is ~1300km. Averaged 8.7l/100km. I know that won’t last once it’s on 35s (and eventually 37s) and lifted but if I only lose a couple of liters per, I’ll be estatic. The JLU was getting 14-15l/100.

On one hand, we’re the only silly country not using metric. But the jeep is made here, ok, assembled. But it’s put together with metric parts…

Dammit. I have no idea what to do.

27mpg over ~870 miles y’all really need to join the 20th century, yet alone this century. LOL.
It is dumb. It’d be way cheaper to not need two sets of tools. :) But I really wish I could get 12.9 bolts in gold zinc like grade 8 stuff.

You should have been a mechanic in the 1980s when they couldn't make up their minds and some were metric, some were not, all in the same vehicle.
Then there's the 4.0 from the 1990s - all were non-metric except for ONE single hole in the block. For those of us using those engines in our Eagle, it meant that our conversion involved one single metric bolt to hole the engine mount bracket to the block.
I'm told that's because some Jeep models used a knock sensor in that location...........

The us should have been full metric 75 years ago. It’s costly to be so stubborn.

I'm not saying you are wrong by any means............... and in HS we were taught metric because we were told it's coming and we must be ready and the whole country would be converting soon......
Yeah, right. Never happened.
it's so much easier with metric, it's base 10 like our math.
And it makes it really tough when companies that sell stuff to us for our Jeeps are stuck in the old way making it necessary to have both types of tools if you use their parts. They sell us stuff for a metric vehicle - but use the old system for the fasteners for their product?
Dumb.
You have to deal with the metric system to make your parts work with Jeeps - so why not just do the whole thing in metric?
Yes, I'm old, the majority of my stuff is not metric and it's easier for me to look at something at know for a fact it's 1/2" or 7/16" or 9/16" head or nut - but - I won't be kicking and screaming at the sky if the US said - enough is enough - metric is our standard for everything now.
The old may still be easier for me until the day I die - but I get the logic of metric, too.

I guess after we were told "metric is coming" back in the 1970s, someone decided "resistance is NOT futile".

My son and I picked up my nephew’s Jeep that needs some work. My son is 10 now, but this used to be his Jeep.
Jeep Gladiator What did you do WITH your Gladiator today? IMG_7443

Flash back to 2018:
I found a cheap used Hotwheels themed Jeep that was in rough shape. I bought it and wired in a larger battery. I gave my son a few options to fix it up. Being a huge dinosaur fan, he chose the Jurassic Park Jeep theme! I’ve loved Jeeps since seeing Jurassic Park as a kid, and was thrilled my son had the same interest.

Quick before and after pic:

It’s fun to watch my nephew drive it around. It needs a lot of touch up paint work, but it will be fun to work on.

I haven’t gotten to the point with metric that I am with sae. I can look at sae bolts and usually grab the right wrench. I’m getting better with metric, but it’s not muscle memory yet.

But "I can't drive 55" sounds so much better than "I can't drive 88.5".
But in metric you can go back in time so easily.

England is half on half off the metric system. Their roads are all miles/MPH.

They also post their dates incorrectly. 😁
