Trailing my way across half of central Florida this weekend.
Got off early Friday to spend some time w family in Ocala and what better way to get there then trailing through the Ocala National Forest.
Last Friday through Richloam yielded a couple snakes. This weekend it was turtles in the ONF. The first one (a painted turtle, I believe) which hitched a ride to some not-so-nearby water, and the second, an American Snapping Turtle. I've come across fewer of these than the always fun Alligator Snapping Turtle. No snakes. (Boo)
Started off Saturday heading for Cedar Key. Not sure if Jeep nav loves or hates me cause it took us through Goethe WMA which was a nice trail ride, but then...
It took us down another hardpack road which after a few miles ended at a marked open gate "private hunting ranch." Sorry guys! Too far to turn back.

The next 15-20 miles were spent traversing pock-marked limestone roads, overflowing creeks, and shanty-town hunt camps, while a nasty cold front complete with high winds, and driving rain while lightning raged, felt like "Jurassic Park" meets "Deliverance." The whole time I was just waiting for a T-Rex to pop out of the trees to give chase. Or worse, the "squeal like a pig" people, lol.
But we made it through and came out the other end to a thankfully open gate bearing the same signage, with welcome blacktop right after.
Cedar Key was a rainy bust so back to Ocala to drop off my intrepid travel partner (Mom. What a trooper! Lol.)
Bumped into a Jeep group gassing up near Hard Rock (Tampa Latino Jeepers(?) Looked like a bunch of hard core rigs I probably couldn't keep up with.) Then on home back through the Ocala Nat'l Forest where I'd get to knock the cobwebs off the winch by moving a tree off the road that was downed by the storm, and then hauling another dead tree off a trail.
(Ever drop your snatch ring down an armadillo hole while rigging up?)
Passed 10k miles this weekend and a lot of trail riding. What fun.

Drove down to Washington Oak (Palm Coast, FL) this weekend and the Glad was half dressed. When I drive her this way it reminds me of the 1930’s Duesenbergs. Is it just me?

Been camping at the Oregon dunes this weekend. A GMC truck got stuck halfway up one of the dunes that leads to the beach. There were 2 Police officers on ATVs trying to help him. I offered to go to the top of the dune and winch him up so he could make it to the beach. About halfway through, the officers told the guy he was in good hands, and they left.

Got him and his family onto the beach and then had a great day at the dunes. The only bad part was, at the end of the day we noticed that my trail cam was full and I didn't get a video of the recovery. Bummer. But it was fun helping someone out.

Led 4 vehicles on a trip in the dunes, JTR, Range Rover (bogged all the time), Pajero and JK. The JTR continues to excel in the soft stuff.
