Not sure if this is the right way to do this but I have a scenario where I want to do something but the Jeep won't let me or is not equipped to do things right. I wonder if there are other situations so specific that you only run into them occasionally.

Here is mine:
I drove my Gladiator into a very tight spot and when I went to back out I needed to see everything behind me. Since the mirrors (...wet lets face it - they suck) didn't provide the view I needed to be safe I opened my door. WAM, goes into park. I went - ok, I'll try just leaning out the window... WAM, goes into park.

Has anyone else had this fun?
And what can those of us who are NOT dumb enough to get out of our vehicle without securing it from rolling on its own? In a tight spot autopark is actually more of a hazard.

Thoughts?

Thoughts:
Don't drive into tight spots.
The truck is equipped with a backup camera.
If you lift your butt off of the seat, or if you open the door with the seat belt unbuckled, it will auto-park. This is all in the Owner's Manual.

And now that the obligatory "RTFM" is out of the way and no real help given.

In front of the shifter there is an opening that pops open. Inside the cover there is a tether that will allow you to manually release the "Auto Park" feature.

Really? I thought it was to just release trans from park in an event you need towed or pushed due to no power.

There is a video floating around somewhere on this Board showing a guy alone on the trail and he used the function to winch himself out of a bad spot with door open and no seat belt so he could watch clearance on the driver side.

Seat belt extender. Many threads on it, including someone who jammed the door by putting a mailbox between the door and car.

There a lots of times I pull into low areas and the backup camera just doesn't cut it - hanging out the window.
So if I understand correctly I could, in theory, put a switch on the dash to close the seat belt circuit and that would work.
It's a challenge!

Why go to the trouble of installing a switch when you could just buckle the seat belt?

There are no problems you can't solve by over complicating the solution.

True. A seatbelt extension would work just fine
