Where would you put your trailer brake controller?

Pondering this……would you pull the 12v and put the MOPAR there or drill a new hole to right of AC controls install an aftermarket to maintain the 12v? I keep going back and forth on this….pros and cons… I want it to look fairly clean.

You need to be able to reach that controller in an emergency to apply the trailer brakes manually. I'd never position a brake controller where I couldn't hit it quickly and without thinking where it was, or having to reach across. I'd move the 12v outlet first. There's no reason for it to be convenient - you don't need to plug things in or unplug them while driving. You do need access to the trailer brakes.
So - I'd move the 12v outlet to the right.

How about neither? I'd rather have it to the left of the A/C controls, or even better to the left of the steering column. You want it close, easy to reach, but not in the way of daily stuff. Don't want to have to try and reach across the cab to get it or have it interfere with something.

Left of center is for stuff the driver uses. Don't put it to the right.

I was recently debating the same question because I was about to drive from SoCal to Seattle to pick up my nephew's new 16 ft. enclosed trailer and tow it back to Central CA.

I opted for for this Curt brake controller and it works fantastic for a 1000 mile tow. It's pricey but no more so than if I'd had one permanently installed on my truck.

I was recently debating the same question because I was about to drive from SoCal to Seattle to pick up my nephew's new 16 ft. enclosed trailer and tow it back to Central CA.

I opted for for this Curt brake controller and it works fantastic for a 1000 mile tow. It's pricey but no more so than if I'd had one permanently installed on my truck.

So you have one too? Excellent. I wondered if anyone else here had purchased/used one and how reliable it has been for them? Nicest thing is if I every need to tow with another vehicle I'm all set!

I do. I love it. I move it between vehicles and trailers. Works every time. I only use the app if I need to change settings. Otherwise plug and go. I have the accessory emergency braking button, but have never needed it. I test it each time I tow though.

Rather than use either of those options I went in the cubby hole where the aux switches would be.

I pondered all the same questions on traditional wired controllers, then was faced with having to possibly install in multiple vehicles. We have since replaced one of the vehicles and that cost would have been wasted. I opted for the Curt Echo. It has worked great for our 4,600 lb travel trailer on multiple vehicles. Highly recommend the Echo. In this age of bluetooth and such, I wonder why anyone would go the old route. I bought mine on marketplace for $100 used, perfect condition.

Or if you need to tow another trailer with the same vehicle - the Curt Echo can save trailer profiles. Perfect for those with multiple tow vehicles and multiple trailers.

I used the tape provided. This was the only smooth spot to attach it to. The cable runs under the corner of the panel.
