Why 17" vs other bigger sizes

I have the same backspace and offset with my FUEL COVERTs.You need the backspace for clearence with 37s and stock fenders and they will stick out about an inch for 12.5 wide tire on a 17x9 rim. Also do you have your Falcon shocks already? I ordered mine in July of last year and still no luck.

They’ll stick out more than 1”.

I had 12.50 wide on stock wheels and no wheel spacers for a few days. Didn’t rub anywhere, but this was with 20x8 wheels and wide axles on the High Altitude package.

BEEFY. Love it. If I recall @cannonFodder, you bought your rig with 22's and I think your profile pic still shows that. What's been your experience going from 22's to 17's?

I actually saved some rolling mass weight by taking off the 22x10 and 35x12.50 combo and replacing with the current setup. No difference in driving experience. Much more interest in it when it's parked or driving - lots of thumbs up and smiles.

There is some good content in this thread and it’s right on time too because I have been combing through different build threads and various other topics to learn the answers to this question.

Has anyone had a bad experience with specific wheel manufacturers? Or maybe a better way to ask is what are the preferred wheels for off-roading?

There is a rule of thumb you want your tire diameter twice your wheel diameter to give you enough sidewall for protection, aired down or otherwise. 31's are perfect on 15's, 35's are perfect on 17's, etc.

I don't know where the upper limit would be, I ran 33's on 15's and 37's on 17's for years and years with no issues.

Tires are always what I focus on, I haven't any problem with most OEM wheels if they're the right size (15x6 is NOT the right size), heck I prefer them in most cases.

I really like the look of the 18" Overland wheels, but I don't expect to ever run 37's, so I'd never buy a set. A buddy of mine has 35's on his Overland Diesel, they look great and i'm sure they work great, but not for me.

I am going with 17s. Just wanted to make sure I understand why it was being recommended. I am still trying to figure out the offset and backspace. I want the tire to be slightly past fender. Max 1” but maybe less. What offset and backspacing should I be looking for?

When you guys talk about offsets and back spacing. Please say what the rim width is too. Because a 8" and a 9" will be different. A 8" with a 0 offset will have different back spacing than a 9" with a 0 offset.
