Without threads like that, you wouldn’t find ideas to mount a microphone holder without screwing up your dash trim or putting a hole somewhere.

I guess haters gonna hate.

I looked at something like that, but the Overland doesn't have the exposed bolt in the grab handle.

Doesn't anyone use the phone slot between the cup holders or is that model specific? It's held my 6"-ish Pixel in bumpy terrain, etc really well.

I can see having the extra holder, even with the larger head unit screen Android Auto can be sluggish or get into weird states vs just using my phone. Also hopping in and out to snap pictures and disconnecting/reconnecting Android Auto is about guaranteed to get it in a weird state.

Ugh, I need to vacuum.

Tablet and phone and handheld radio all obnoxiously mounted on the dash for my viewing pleasure. Also a spot for a Go Pro. Don't need it, but I'll borrow one for the trip this weekend to stir the pot a little more ?

Honest question. I don't think I've ever been on a forum with so many threads/posts about phone holders.

What's the point? With either bluetooth or wired carplay you can see anything of value that would pop up on your phone on the radio display.

Are folks just like, driving around streaming netflix or something? :CWL:
No, you can't see all apps on the radio. Some don't show up with AA.
I've got apps that won't show up in AA.

And like already said- there are laws against having a phone in your hand, even if not using it actively.

So why does it bother you so much?

Try this with android auto LOL

I used that for my phone for a long time. Having it sit upside down with the cable connected seems to put unnecessary stress on the USB port. I stopped doing that last summer when I had to get a new phone. Now, it just sits in the passenger seat, usually on top of my jacket so it doesn't slide around.

Never been into phone mounts but I just got one and it’s way more convenient. There’s no good place to put a phone in the JT, especially when you’re offroading. My phone was always bouncing around, CarPlay disconnected, it’d be on the floor, etc.

it’s easier to use where it’s mounted and it’s not illegal to use it as I believe it’s technically hands free. Win win.

The age range of a majority of posters should tell you all you need to know. Looool... You're either an Uber driver or over the age of 35 if you still use a phone holder.

That or the likely more realistic answer is "offroad" stuff.
61 here and no phone holder for my iPhone 12

Why do you need a microphone?

In Illinois, Louisiana, and parts of Indiana and Ohio, it will go flying and that's before you even get off the highway.
