During prime day this year, I bought the 5.0 version. I have to agree with many of the reviews. “When it work, it works”. I ended up returning it.

The Setup was a bit wonky, but fairly easy to get done. For me, the odd part was that it connected via Bluetooth and wifi for various purposes. It would always run normally in wifi mode. (Thus my personal hotspot was unavailable during roadtrips)

Why I ended up returning it, is when I would drive for over 30 minutes, if I used both navigation and Played music from the phone, eventually the lag/delay would start to increase. This would eventually lead to a complete freeze of the device. I preferred the device to be hidden, so unplugging and starting over wasn’t an option for me on the road.

I have a carlinkit. Don't recall which version. It was sluggish and lossy when I had a 7" uconnect, but after upgrading to 8.4" uconnect it is really amazing. Fast startup, very smooth animations, very few problems at all. I have it plugged into USB in center console, the only issue I've seldom had is that if console is hot from direct sun, the carlinkit gets hot and restarts. I've been thinking about relocating to under seat but hasn't been that much of an issue.

CarlinKit 5.0 (2air)… just purchased direct for $70 and thanks to this thread. No idea about them, but was the top one via a “Best Apple CarPlay wireless adapter 2023” search. Amazon was more than $100.

I have 2 of the 3.0 in our Pacifica and Gladiator. Liked them so much I bought a 5.0 for my EV6. The 3.0s were buggy at first but after updates they have been flawless for about 2 years now. I bricked one during an update after a few emails they sent a new one. Great support for an off brand import product.

Has anyone tried one of the wireless CarPlay adapters with the uconnect system?

I bought two on Amazon on Black Friday last November that are made by Ottocast. One is in my JT other for the wife's Lincoln. Hers has worked great but mine was hit and miss so I stopped using it. Back in April someone started a thread about wireless adapters that made me think of mine. I emailed the maker and they had me update the firmware. Since then mine has worked well. Every week or two mine has trouble connecting but I have it hooked up thru a short USB extension with a built in switch. When there is a problem turning that switch off and on has always worked. I'll add links for the cable I'm using as well as the adapter.

I got an OTTOCAST and it rarely worked. The update process was sketchy and likely connecting directly to the PRC. Haven’t used it in months.

When I first tried an Ottocast in my Jeep it rarely worked well. My biggest complaint wasn’t the connection problem although about half the time it didn’t connect. My gripe was about the sound quality. There were a lot of random popping noises while playing songs stored on my iphone. I updated it like the instructions recommended but it didn’t help so after a few weeks I disconnected it. Back in April I sent an email to them and they replied with a link to beta firmware. Since then it has sounded great and there are far fewer connection problems. I can’t say it will work for everyone but it helped mine enough that I use it again.
