So I just parked and this adhesive patch thingy majigger just fell from above the windshield area and landed on the diver side speaker on top the dash. WTH is it? I’m guessing it has to do with the heat, it was 104 today here in TX.

Just in case it’s relevant, I have a 2021 Overland with a freedom top. I’ve owned it since new and have around 27k miles.

Found it! I unbolted the windshield and it sits between the windshield and the A pillar. I appreciate the speculative guesses though. It was weird it just fell down when I put it in park.

Those are "mastic" patches. They are sometimes used with the plastic covering on one side to seal openings, and most often they are used to cover a surface to prevent contact . An example would be preventing wiring from rubbing against a sharp edge.

The same patch being used at the fog light connector to prevent it from flopping because there's not a hole provisioned on the frame for a christmas tree ziptie.

It might have been stuck there at one time, but it's not supposed to be. Apparently at the factory, two guys were sitting in your jeep on the assembly line and were fixing a sandwich and didn't want the extra slice of cheese and stuck them up there. They used to be a orangy yellow color.

Okay, fine.

You have factory headliner installed and that is one of the adhesive pads holding it in.
The factory headliner uses a hook and loop system called Aplix with a PSA applied to each side of it.

It's just like normal Velcro you can buy at Hobby Lobby, no extra patches.

That, as the OP discovered, is a piece of butyl sealant.

Indiana- Just bought a 22 Overland last month with only 11,000 miles. Was very excited to find something like this. I recently was informed by my better half that she heard the stopped making the Overland. Has anyone else heard this and have any more info on this? Thanks for any input.

Yes for the new MY that trim level was discontinued. Just too many overlapping trims and slow sales is my best guess. At the end of the day you can build up a Sport S and have an Overland for the most part, minus very minor differences. And if a buyer wants everything they will just buy a fully loaded Rubicon or Mojave.

The same problem happens with other brands too. My last truck was a Silverado LTZ that I got well below sticker because they had stagnant inventory on that trim. What was once the top trim was eclipsed with the High Country (Denali on GMC). So you have a problem where you have buyers who don't want to spend or don't need the fully loaded trims so they go with the base or middle of the road trims and then those who have the extra cash or want the fully loaded options splurge for whatever the most expensive trim level is. So a lot of these former top trim levels now sit in trim purgatory. Too expensive for those that don't want or need it and not expensive enough for those that want to spend the money.
