Hey guys, was wondering if anyone has supplemental insurance to cover the money they've put into their Jeep in modifications? I was going over my JT today and realized I have about $6k in mods, by the time im done with it, it'll be closer to $20k. I know my regular collision and liability policy isnt going to cover that in the event something happens to my JT. I was wondering if there are companies out there that will insure the value of my modifications? If any one has any advice in that regard I'm all ears.
Thanks!

Also curious about this, was going to put a call into my insurance rep and see what they say.

I'm thinking about doing it too. Can anyone tell me roughly how much extra they'll pay per month?

There are plenty of companies that will write a declared value policy. Just have to ask them.

As to cost, depends on how much you have involved in your rig, deductible you go with, and of course location, location, location.

It's not a rare hidden thing, it's available for almost anything, but it's not on the regular menu of most insurance companies.

Know this, it's not cheap, and you have a lot of hoops to jump through (paperwork, receipts, pictures) and does not cover labor costs.

Usaa covers $5k in mods.
After that you have to have a personal property insurance policy. Upload copies of receipts to include labor if you want it covered covered.

Our last jku had around $30k in it the $25k on personal property cost me around $200 a year?

Never filed a claim for the Jeep- have had to file a claim on other items on personal property. They asked minimal questions and I was paid within 24 hours of filing the loss ???

White bright has a video on this from years ago before they made it big they were living in Colorado at the time. They found an agent out of Colorado, I think, that specialized in it so you might want to go to their YouTube page and do some kind of search.

I have USAA. Is the $5k automatically a part of the policy? Do you need the receipts for that or just for the higher amounts?

Thanks!

Thanks everyone, appreciate the input. Guess I'll give USAA a call in the AM and see what they have to say. We do all our insurance through them, House, ATV's, trailers, etc. So hopfully its not crazy $

USAA also told me 5k automatic mod coverage with receipts. But they told me that was an NJ thing not a USAA thing, so who knows.

I also opted for new car replacement assistance which gives me 20% over acv on total. Between the 5k and the 20% over acv I figure I'm covered. I think I'll only have like 6-7k when I'm done anyway

Receipts are going to make life easier.
It really depends on what you have. I didn’t want to deal with back and forth if we totaled out. Well a factory 44 is $4500…. You are claiming $9500 for an axle….. receipts. The other fun one was shocks- factory shocks were probably $100 a piece…. Kings we’re almost 10x the amount…. Receipt

My State Farm agent immediately informed me when adding my Mojave to my policy to let them know about all mods so they can be listed on my policy. Not extra, already covered under current policy.

My agent said keep a list, keep receipts, send him a copy of the list of things I've added.
Keeping receipts is easy - just have a folder handy and when you buy something, stick the papers in the folder.
I keep a document with the list and any time I update it, I forward my agent a copy.
No need to go to a special company - your insurance will either cover it, cover up to xx worth of extras, or will charge a bit extra for anything above xx amount

My insurance company will only go to an extra $4000 of mods. They want $60 a month for that. Not a good deal. If you count labor, removable items like a tent, overlanding stuff, etc I have at least $50k extra sitting there. Some of that can probably go on my homeowner's policy. I think I will shop around a bit to see what companies can do better with coverage. Already paying about $1200 a month in car insurance!
