The best thing you can do for fuel mileage is a hard bed cover. You'll notice a difference immediately.
Even this is a hotly debated topic. There are several mythbuster episodes where they test about every configuration you can think of (hard tonneau, soft tonneau, no tonneau cover with tailgate up, no tonneau cover with tailgate down, etc).

Surprisingly, the setup with NO cover and the tailgate UP did the best. It was only a few percent, but the notion that the tailgate creates a ton of drag and kills MPG just isn't as true as people make it out to be. Their explanation was that the air flowing over and around the cab creates vortices, and that there is no steady airflow that makes direct contact with the tailgate.

Exactly. Why? Because the OEM does the bulk of their wind tunnel testing in the tailgate up and bed open configuration. Because that's how most customers drive and that's how it will run the EPA course during mileage certification.

I bought a Injen Evolution CIA because I absolutely loved the one on my Silverado and their nano web filters are awesome. If I ever have an itch to get a snorkel, it will bolt right onto this assembly, all you have to do is take the top plate off. I’m hoping to have time to install it tomorrow or maybe Thursday. I’ll post a video of before and after results as well as some pictures.

Is anyone familiar with this?
2020 Jeep Gladiator Genuine Mopar Engine Air Filter - High Flow

Part Number: P5160245AA

It is an OEM part, but the "discounted" price is over $97. Looks similar to a washable K&N, but without the oil.
I have one of these, came with the Mopar Intake, I'm not going to use it. Anyone interested message me a offer. I also have the hood cutout not in use.

Here’s a short video I made after I installed it. It’s a completely different sound now, absolutely love it.

I ordered a Volant CAI with the Donaldson Powercore filter system in June. Unfortunately, still waiting for my order. There is a bracket on back order. Listening to yours is making me impatient now. I also have the 6mt.

You must have missed the other "re-visit episode.........

They actually have found that a soft tonneau cover worked the best.
Modern tailgates also have a top that's designed and shaped to help. These aren't your grandfather's tailgates.

GM wind tunnel tests support the tonneau covers helping just like mythbusters showed ->
(others have found the same results using wind tunnels and actually measuring drag and so on)

Wind tunnel studies even helped sculpt the Sierra’s tailgate and the top mounted brake light to guide air crisply about the truck. Since Bloch’s team found unwanted air streaming between the cab and bed, sealing was added to thwart it.

Truck Myth #1 – Lowered tailgate improves aerodynamics
False – Bloch discovered that air flowing over the tailgate pushes forward on the truck. With the gate down this benefit is lost.

Truck Myth #2 – Cargo nets produce less drag than tailgates
False - “Replacing the tailgate with an aftermarket net is worse than having no tailgate at all,” Bloch said. “Imagine dragging a solid object and a fishing net through water. The net is going to require more muscle.”

Truck Myth #3 – Bed covers don’t help
False – Hard bed covers have some benefit but soft covers or tonneaus have even more, allowing the air to form its own path of least resistance.

Truck Myth #4 – Running boards create drag
False – Round tube style running board have a slight benefit but flat running boards build into the body and frame greatly smooth the flow of air about the truck.

sounds great!
Thanks! The video does not do it justice, it is pretty loud when you get on it. Cruising speed is normal which is what I was hoping for.

Mishimoto with dry filter. Great, slight noise but nothing excessive and will allow me to run an AEV snorkel in the future. No changes to mpg but slight bump off the line. My 3” afe rock basher exhaust did however give me a slight bump in mpg, about .5-1mpg and truck pulls a little stronger. Plus I love the R35(ish) sound it makes now.

Sorry, I have to question that since these are running low air volume and low intake valve lift mode below 2800 RPM.
If the stock intake was restrictive in any way at LOW RPM., taking off,. it would be suffocating at 4300 RPM under a load like towing. 'Off the line' these aren't pulling much air at all. The pumping efficiency isn't there.

No change made is going to show up right away as the PCM has to have time to adjust to things.

Give it a try.

I think the advice for a bed cover comes from older-non-aerodynamically made trucks.

However, I bought a cover for my '93 F-150 4WD Extended Cab and my efficency went from 14MPG to 18MPG when I put a Trifecta 2.0 on it. This is highway driving around DC, doing 70-some.
There are multiple current tests out there proving it does matter. Usually the gain isn't something to really brag about, but it's measurable. Several entities have done the tests both on the highway, on a race track, and in the wind tunnel.

I just cant get over my mpg difference between my 20’ GPEC2 vs my 22’ GPEC5 3.6. Both similar lifts, steel bumpers with same winch, both running the same tonneau covers, 20’ jeep intake vs 22’ mishimoto and both with 2.5” and 3” straight catbacks. I was over 20mpg on my 20’ vs 16-17mpg on my 22’. Yes my Mojave has 4.10’s vs. Sport 3.73 but that should help with 35” tires. Its a head scratcher for me. Same exact driving, nothings changed.
