2020 JTR. Replaced steel spare with a matching wheel for 5-tire rotations. Spare did not have TPMS.

Thanks everyone for the helpful posts. Looks like we have verified a few things. The steel spare does not have a TPMS sensor, and there are different TPMS sensors for pre June 2021 and post June 2021 gladiators. Check the build date on your Gladiator and get the appropriate sensors. Hope others find this helpful.

For the ones that added the TPMS to the spare, Does the info screen show the psi in the bed?

FFS…there were others mentioning they did have them, but they were alloys, so I wanted clarification. Sorry it seems to have bothered you so much…
No big deal at all. It doesn't bother me. I just like to know the difference between the two sensors and really, why the change. Still good to know about the sensors when swapping wheels. Thanks.

A TPMS sensor only transmits when the wheel is rotating. Otherwise the sensor goes to sleep to preserve battery life. Therefore the spare tire sensor does not transmit any info.

The Wrangler spare has a TPMS, which makes sense. Its on an alloy wheel that is identical to the other wheels and it makes sense to support a 5 tire rotation.

Our spare is truly a "spare".

Don't forget that after 6/21 FCA changed the tpms on the JT's and JL's. Check your build date on your door frame before ordering or installing a new tpms sensor.
Both are 433mhz but I read on the Wrangler site the the newer style will require a tool to reset. The programming is different for some reason. Chevy did this years ago, requiring a special tool for calibration as to locating the position on the vehicle. Not sure how the newer style works on the Gladiator. Do you need a tool now for recalibration?

I didn't. Discount Tire installed new tires on new wheels and I had them transfer the sensors and add one new sensor to the spare. Tpms was lit up like a Christmas tree on the dash but cleared by the time I pulled onto the road. One by one they were clearing as I was rolling.

My bad...that reply was meant for GVSUKIDS' unhelpful comments. My apologies to you! I should know better to reply on the phone's small screen...

@JTenn, I glad to hear your local Discount Tire store was able to get you taken care of.
Yeah my local DT store are great folks to deal with. I should earn some kind of VIP status with them for as much money I spend there!!

My tire pressure screen and tire fill alert work at a stand still, so I am just guessing, but to me it doesn't look like they need to be rotating to work.
When I had my 5th TPMS put in I also had the tires rotated. The tire guy said it would be a good practice to put the spare tire valve stem (TPMS) facing the rear to keep it farthest away from the monitors.

I'm glad to hear you have some friends at your Discount Tire store. I used to have favorite people I got to know very well and would follow them if they moved locations but I found over the years they all took care of me so I went to the closest location.

We appreciate your support.

True...they do work at stand still. I am lucky enough to have a Gladiator built in the year they had the Tire Fill Assist/Alert, and it works at stand still. I do believe though the sensor has to spin a while to get "activated" in the system. The computer will sync with the four turning sensors and ignore any others until they spin.
