Stellantis said no V8 gladiator back in May, hence the fact I immediately ordered the diesel right after that.

Yes and no.

While there will be no JT's with factory V-8's for sale, there ARE a handful of factory V-8 JT's with manufacturer plates.

Heh, so you'll sacrifice the entire rear underseat storage for maybe 15 miles of electric range, and get worse fuel MPG because of all the battery weight?

Unless they massively improve battery life, I don't see how this is a tempting option for anyone.

Time will tell I suppose. I personally don't care either way whether I drive gas or electric. But I find it hard to follow a lot of the "sky is falling" hyperbole out there. People are getting way, way ahead of themselves about the future of ICEs.

Yes, we're starting to see most manufacturers beginning to adopt alternative fuel sources, but there's are quite a few huge reasons why most of them are in no hurry to go full Tesla.
  1. Batteries are expensive, and the materials to produce them are hard to source.
  2. Batteries are way heavier than gas, and they take up a lot more room than gas.
  3. Electrical failures causing your entire vehicle to malfunction is a real thing that many prospective buyers (myself included) are wary of.
  4. There simply aren't enough charging stations in existence to support a world where electric vehicles are the only option. Eliminating gas entirely would require decades of infrastructure upgrades, and you can bet at least half of MURCA won't feel like footing any of that bill.
  5. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, more than private passenger vehicles use gas. Go stand next to a diesel semi and watch it start moving from a dead stop while hauling thousands and thousands of pounds of Amazon crap for us. Then imagine the batteries that would be required to move that load. Yea no.

Simple, it has the power of a V8 with the around town gas mileage of the diesel even with the small batteries and extra weight. The extra weight really only impacts highway and you're talking about a 1mpg drop which is made up for by getting 1 really cheap gallon of gas. People seem to be missing the real selling point of the 4xe and that is it's performance which absolutely blows the doors off everything that isnt a 392.

If it works the same as the Wrangler 4xe, the Rubicon gets close to 40mpg, and will perform the same on all the trails... we have a few in our local club.

Can't order one or get from a dealer so basically no V8's

40 mpg? It's more like 20 mpg, combined, from all reports I've seen. Most here can milk that out of their Pentastar or diesel JT. It's electric apologists saying things like this that get people too excited about something that they shouldn't be getting excited about in the first place.

Regarding the OP....it's been obvious for months that there will be no 8 cylinder JT, at least from Jeep. Time to move on from that hope.
