Wait. I’m sure I’m reading this incorrectly. All of these are clearly stronger than any of the stock springs - max tow vs rubicon vs standard. But how do these numbers actually work? Clayton top rate is 360 meaning… what exactly in terms of weight ?
you’d have to talk to Clayton to get thedynamic weight rating. They only give the spring rate which is the force required to move the spring 1”.

okay. Yeah the homemade tables just threw me off.
someone was asking had all the information as I went through 3 springs from the stock springs , to the Clayton, and the. Then recently the dobsons with inner spring air bags after we got back from the arctic 3 month trip. Although they worked great we felt we were missing out on some travel. Note: I haven’t been able to flex out everything to ensure everything is right as I don’t have access to a forklift but plan on doing this to ensure we get max articulation with max drivability and weight handling. Our goals for performance metrics starting at articulation and feeling on corregated to road driving. Anyways thought it would be helpful to have the spreadsheet with all the information in one place to have peoplean ability to answer their own questions with weight requirements!!

Oh and I forgot about this JT+ACC build where the owner (Josh) said he is only running Icon Stage 8 kit+Hellwig Sb , doesnt sound like he is running high-compression special coils:

This is being widely shared on social media this week, which made me think of this thread.

One thing that we should be more aware of here in US is GVWR upgrades.

I honestly have never known anyone personally to be successful with a GVW upgrade. Usually thats more for commercial trucks than passenger vehicles. And it likely requires larger brakes, steering components, and frame strength. Just adding HD springs I dont think would be sufficient.

I went with Dobinson 3" Extreme duty. Was concern it may be too stiff, but has worked out almost perfectly with Clayton 2.5" in the front. I think I might have wanted just a little more height on the rear, maybe 1/2", or maybe not lol. I've put several hundred miles on them, on and offroad. Felt very stable and planted. No more pogoing.

There is a lot to it. From strengthening frame if needed, better brakes, rims and rated tires. Steering isn’t really needed for the weights that are possible. Look at what they are doing for the LC300 in Australia with both body chop to dual cab. Frame extensions and GVWR upgrade to 4.5 tons. Really straight forward but they have to be approved and have engineering results with testing. Really cool stuff. Looking forward to see what they do with the new Tundra when they get it. We are thinking about doing a gvwr upgraded tundra with a tray and canopy to add to our fleet for the Veteran overland project. MWR I believe is the shop who does the chops and GVWR upgrades on the Lc300 in aus.

All the frame work and suspension/axle/tire work is the easy part.

The difficult part is getting it certified and signed off from the DOL and the county. In my area, idk if that's even possible... If it is it most certainly has to be proven to be done by a certified shop and engineering - meaning, it's not a project that could be done in my own back yard even if I had the tools and skills to do so. Which means $$$$$$$$$$$. Just not worth it IMO. A little bit over GVW is one thing, but purposefully going a thousand pounds or more over GVW - man that's when it's time to just truck up. But, if you have the $$$ then anything is possible.

I wasn’t even talking about any certification. Which as far as I am aware isn’t required by law. But I am only aware of Federal and Local laws not your jurisdiction. Regardless, even if it was some sort of sign off. I would be willing to bet an engineer designed product installed within the specifications, inspected as such would be certified. Unlike, AUS where you cannot do it after the vehicle is transferred to the individual.

Now all said, I am doing this route. I have done upgraded my suspension to handle the weight, working on gearing on the diesel to help, as well as putting in powerbrake front big brake kit. I also upgraded to 2.5ton front steering kit. We are deciding if we will be doing more to the axles besides bracing them on the Dana 44s. We also did a tune on the diesel to help bring in more power. The only thing I would do beyond this is to strengthen the frame. A project we have slated JIC. All said I am not really over gvwr. I am right at it. But can see situations where I would be over. Even so the main reason for the gram strengthening is how the gladiator is used when burdened with my Alucab Camper. Anyways, I am sad to see that they didn’t design this thing better from the factory for this type of useage. Maybe we will see a more heavy duty option I’m with redesigns. With manufacturers like EOS with the Grenadier coming out with a very respectable GVWR. I can see more manufacturers especially ones like Toyota bringing up their game. Especially with the talk of bring back the Landcruiser to the US to be more overland friendly with the weight capabilities instead of interior upgrades.
