Counterpoint: dealership tech pay is garbage for what the job entails. "Nobody wants to work anymore" is not really true imo. There aren't thousands of people just sitting at home. Covid caused a massive seismic shift in the various industries and people were able to move into better paying jobs as a result of that.

Most of the good techs that know what they're doing will go heavy duty or private fleets. Way less bullshit and drama.
I agree, businesses don't want to pay increased labor rates and automated HR tools are rejecting applications that don't exactly fit the posting. A lot of businesses think that can still get people with 10 years experience and certifications at entry level wages. Based on the things I've read, the pay to experience level ends up pushing a lot of folks out of those jobs. This combined the lack of apprenticeship/inhouse training programs continues to limit new entrants into the trades.

I also don't buy the people aren't working because the stimulus funds set them up to sit at home. Those funds are long since spent and I don't believe anyone got a large enough nest egg during the pandemic to sit at home this long.

Same here in Binghamton NY. My local Jeep dealer is about 6 weeks out for service.

Here in central AR, my last “free” oil change wasn’t able to be scheduled for 4 weeks out. I just turned up the next morning as they opened and waited an hour for them to do it, no problems.

I’ve worked in a dealership before. They suck to work for and I’m sure money is better elsewhere. Don’t blame the mechanics for quitting

FWIW, I'm in the Phoenix area and while I haven't run into the same scheduling issues you are describing, I can say that I currently have 2 JKUR's and 1 JTR that I bought from "Dealer A" and always take them for service at "Dealer B". I learned early on that "Dealer A" has a great Sales staff and will actually deal on new cars but their Service department is the worst I've seen in my life. "Dealer B" won't budge of the sticker for sales but have a great service department. I even spoke with a Sales guy at "Dealer B" who also won't buy from the dealership that he works at and actually buys his vehicles from "Dealer A".

It's strange how they can have such different personalities. It's likely that's what you are seeing.
This is the exact same reason I bought the jeep somewhere else and wanted to get service at another dealer, but no choice now unless i want to wait over a month

I could live with long waits. Unfortunately, every service center ( total of three) are either totally incompetent and or flat out lie to your face.
Get ready to hear “we can’t find any problems”. Seems to be part of the training at Jeep.
I cant wait, misfires and now overheating, cant drive it far had to get it serviced

in central DE dealers are running about 2-3 weeks behind on scheduling services other than oil changes and tire rotations. Seems like we are seeing the effect of the lazy labor force as well. (in my experience at least)
Oil changes, inspections and rotations here are no appointment needed, you have to bring it in on the weekends only for "express service" and you wait maybe an hour, its the bigger stuff that's being delayed. I guess they hire the oil change people for the weekend and mechanics for the work week. sounds smart so don't tie up any lifts or space

Make an appointment every week, then cancel it three days before (if you don't need it), then you always have one ready!

That’s more obvious and severe than the issue I had/have. I think technicians have become to reliant on computers to tell them what’s wrong. as long as there’s a code to tell them what to do, you should be okay
For example. One issue I had was an exhaust leak right at the manifold. It was a loud ticking that anyone could hear. Two dealerships said “ no problem found”. I had to take the technician outside and show him the difference in sound on each side of the engine. Even then, he said “maybe I hear a flutter”.
the most recent battle I went through was trying to get the steel steering box installed due to pulling to the right. I gave up and ordered the box myself.

I think jeep doesnt trust them either along with they just dont have that skill anymore, but bring it to the guy down the block he will tell you the part number off the top of his head

Something's gotta be wrong physically assuming your fan is functioning normal. Bad thermostat, air in the system, bad temp gauge (unless it's boiling over)
