Ugh. Kinda sounds like confirmation from here: no Hurricane in the next three years.

It's going to be a hybrid hurricane. Probably less boost to keep temps down. Supplementing with hybrid motor.

Chances of a hurricane in a wrangler or gladiator before the JM refresh was basically 0 anyways and the V8 not showing up wasn't eco driven, it was cooling and sales driven. Even in the wrangler the V8 is under 3.5k sales so doing all the design, testing, and certs to end up with something that's tow rating would probably be 5k pounds thanks to heat and sales in the hundreds per year was also a pipe dream.

I'm thinking ram will be debuting the hurricane next as it's the V8 replacement.

Actually...you guys got me thinking: I can very well see Jeep putting the Hurricane in the Gladiator.

And then de-rating to 280 HP and 264 ft-lbs for tow and thermal reasons...?

I would've rather had a 5.7 anyways.

Or a naturally aspirated straight 6 that's serviceable without going to a dealer, and trustworthy after 100k.

Or a pentastar that's actually geared correctly for it's output.

This will not help sales any (even though many of us knew that the Hurricane wasn't going to happen with the current gen JL/JT). Plus, the fact that the GM twins are stealing the show now and the new Taco is soon to come means more dismal sales numbers ahead. I wonder what this will do for resale values?

Yeah, just waiting for the Pentastar to take a crap then it's LT time...

I think any sales figures with the Wrangler 392 have to be heavily qualified with the package that came with it. The 392 came as a completely loaded, luxurious (for a Jeep) package at what, $70,000 base price? Not counting the extra options and dealer markup driving that price up. It’s not a matter of people not wanting to buy it, it’s that it outpriced anyone interested in it.

That, along with the 5.7 being more affordable than the 392 in general.

?

1. He didn't say anything that wasn't already public. That's not his place.

2. New engines aren't typically released the same year as refresh.

3. There's always next year

He's simply commenting based upon current prevailing winds, which are very subject to change.
