Got ours today.
Rural Central Virginia
21 Mojave - Sticker price was $62,225
Personal Property Tax - $675.28 (6 mos)

Typically, my area is pretty low on taxes, so I'm curious as to how this compares to others.

Yup. That’s about what mine is (also VA rural county). My MSRP was “only” $55K though, lol.

Property taxes on homes aren’t bad, but they absolutely gangster your wallet for property tax on anything with a engine that touches the public roadway.

holy crap.
Yup. Quite an incentive to hang onto what you’ve got once it starts depreciating.

The tax assessors are really something:

-When the used car prices went through the roof during the COVID peak, they went right out and reassessed values for taxation purposes.

The car I paid $25K for two years earlier and 20K miles ago was magically assessed to be worth $31K. Do you think they’ve adjusted values back the other direction since prices have started decreasing (we still have the car and they haven’t)??

-Not long ago. They showed up to my front door within a couple weeks of me closing on my house. The house last sold decades ago for $200K+ less (obviously).

My mortgage went up ~$100/month in short order (pay the tax via escrow). Not sure what folks do with that that are in McMansions and bought at the top of their budget.

We don't have personal property taxes on vehicles in Nevada, just the high DMV fees based on the DMV estimate of value at the time of purchase. At least the DMV fees do go down a little every year.

Not sure if we here in NY have property taxes. I know when I bought my gladiator in September, I had to pay 4% NY tax, like 1.5% county tax and 2.5% city tax. So 8% overall on a 52k vehicle.

Annual registration was right at $900 at purchase and the license fee has been dropping 8.4% every year till 12 years where it bottoms out. I think I pay $140 in weight fees for the privileged of owning a commercial vehicle. The year it was down to $790 total?

I always figured CA was the highest on taxes and fees when it came to vehicle, but it appears I was wrong!

In WV starting in 2024 we get a dollar for dollar refund for PP Tax on vehicles from our income taxes, but for now mine were 614 plus the 7% purchase tax when I bought it

Yup, in NV it is called a governmental tax that we pay every single time we register our vehicle. This could equate to a personal property tax I guess. MY JT was 58K. I currently pay about $750 to register it. It is always based on what NV has in their records as the M’SRP” no matter what you paid for the vehicle. It SLOWLY..SLOWLY goes down each year. I think my 5 year old BMW which was 45K still cost over $600 a year to register due to state governmental taxes.

Here in NJ we don't have the personal property tax (we have more than enough other taxes, thank you!), but there's the sales tax of 6.625%. Title and registration fees for 4 years (with the extra fee for Pinelands plates) was $377.
