I have a 2022 Willy’s that I want to put 35’s on. Because there is so much info online I decided to speak to my local Jeep specialty shop. The advised that because I am just a mall crawler and am just looking to fill the wheel wells, I should simply add a spacer kit along with a wheel spacer kit and keep the stock wheels with 35’s. This makes sense and sounds like a good option.

I then happened to be at my local dealer who I actually like for parts and knowledge told me that I should only go 33’s with a spacer and wheel spacer because 35’s on stock wheels will mushroom and could easily break a bead. They say I need new wheels if I go with 35’s

I have read the forums but there are so many differing opinions I don’t know how to proceed. Go with 33’s on stock wheels of new wheels with 35’s?

find a pair of 35's that fit 7.5" wide rims. AKA stock rim width. Technically 12.5" wide 35" wheels prefer to have a 8.5" wide rim to be best seated.

Tire mfrs will state minimal rim width need for a tire size

35x12.50x17 tires are generally recommended on 8.5" with rims minimum. There is a chart floating around from Discount tire that says 7.5" rim width is fine but it counters many if not most tire makers that recommend 8"- 8.5" rim width.

That being said, there is tons of people here and on the Wrangler JL side running 35x12.50x17 or the metric equivalent with no issue.

There is a few threads of people running a Kenda brand 35x10.50x17 tire on stock 7.5" wheels.

12.5s or 315s will musroom on 7.5s, but you definitely won't break a bead. In fact it's occasionally called "poor man's beadlock".

The downsides of running maximum allowable width on a rim is you typically need to run lower psi to pass a chalk test. Lower psi means more flex from the sidewall which means more heat at highway speeds, which means more wear.

You could ignore the chalk test and run higher psi, but then you're wearing you tires unevenly and they'll need to be replaced quicker too.

None of this is a safety issue, it's all tire wear issues.

Personally if I wanted 35s on stock wheels I'd stick with 35x11.5s or 35x10.5s

My biases so you can assess the validity of my opinions: I run 315/70r17s on dirt cheap steel 17x9s

Sounds like to do it write I should have the appropriate wheels for 35’s. That makes sense. I don’t think 33’s on stock wheels will get me what I want. Not looking for a monster truck. Just want my gladiator to me more proportionally appealing

Go with some 11.5 wide 35's, will look great and be good to go on the stock wheels.

I wish I had gone with the 35x11.5 Toyo's but availability didn't work at the time.

Agree with others saying to go with a 10.5 or 11.5 of the 35’s. I saw another thread here showing some pretty tight clearances between tire and shock with 35’s, i think those were 12.5 wide though.

Is there any great disadvantage to going with 11.5s vs up to a 12.5 for 35s? I think the stock Mojave tire is 11.2 (70). So not much difference going up a little vs down to 10.5.

I imagine just more footing for sand/mud/offroad, but 1" doesn't seem like much if you're mostly an on-roader and would rather avoid new wheel costs.

Do you have any poke with that setup? You look lifted or leveled? What step bars are those. LOL. looking for some steps for my Mojave and have wondered about brands because I live in the winter salt heaven and most black steps rust out after a couple of years.

No poke, but the Mojave stock rims are +37mm (wide axles too though)

35x12.50 on stock wheels no issues here and the tire shop had no issue mounting and balancing them. Have about 3k miles on them so far. Again same as above it is a mojave so wider axle helps some.

Ran some 37x13.50s on a 8" wide rim no issues for years on a 2500. Put all kinds of miles on it without issues.
