Based on the dozens and dozens of EcoDiesel UOA reports I've seen, Quaker State ranks the lowest on how well it holds up. If you're running Quaker State in the EcoDiesel, I would cut the oil change intervals to about 6,000-mile drain intervals. Even at 6,000 miles, the oil is already testing in the 5W-30 range. For whatever reason, the 3rd gen EcoDiesel is hard on oil. We're seeing a lot of shearing even with the good quality oils.
You got me curious. I'm going to send in a sample on my next oil change, which will be 7-8k miles used. Been using Qstate since day 1, with 7-8k interval.

What about t6? I had great luck running that in other vehicles.
T6 is a good oil in the gen 2 engine. The Mastertech for FCA told dealers not to run T6 in the gen 3 engine and posted the following pictures in his presentation. These parts were pulled from one of their test mules running T6.

Make sure you use Polaris Labs. Do not use Blackstone.

I run Pennzoil Platinum and change oil at approximately 6,000-mile drain intervals. Keep in mind, a do a fair amount of towing.

I'd like to see a new oil analysis of pp and QS 5w-40 to make sure they ain't the same. Wouldn't make sense for them to offer two different oils.

Is it because that's what everyone used for comparison or something else that I'm not aware of? My last oil sample was 20+ yrs ago with Blackstone.

This is my thought as well. QS has Penzoil label on the jugs.

They are definitely not the same, nor are they priced the same. They have different additive packages and use a different base oil. The Pennzoil, by the way, is made from Natural Gas. Like I said earlier, the Quaker State drops into the 5W-30 range quick and the wear metals are higher.

Blackstone isn't a certified lab, which means they are lacking equipment to get the accuracy needed to be certified. You'll get better data (and more data) from Polaris. I use Amsoil (Oil Analyzers) which is the same as Polaris.

Shell owns Rotella, Pennzoil, and Quaker State.

Anyone use doc’s diesel oil?

Doc's Diesel THE 5W40 Full Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel Oil

https://www.docsdiesel.com/collecti...he-15w40-full-synthetic-heavy-duty-diesel-oil
Interesting that is calls for 10.6qts. for the Eco-diesel. If you put that much oil in and didn't catch the issue...it might get really expensive really quick. No way would I put it in. Maybe for my 2008 Dodge Ram, but not this latest version of the Eco-diesel. Then again, I can get a more well-known oil, which is more inexpensive and more readily available that's not a mystery oil that's been relabeled. One of those situations where there are enough question marks to if something did go wrong, you'd have no one else to blame but yourself...because you were the one that gambled.

...not to mention I was unable to identify if it met the MS-12991 requirement. Nope.
