So the tires and wheels have ~15k on them.
What about the Sport? What's that mileage?

Thanks for the good advice!If you are looking at 35's, might as well look for a proper 8.5"-9.0" wheel to put them on.
Buying take offs when your end goal is something larger can be expensive. I have been there myself.
Less than 600. just got it about a month ago.So the tires and wheels have ~15k on them.

I'm still leaning towards there being a steering component that's out of spec. A problem that's been very common in Gladiators. The larger tires and wheels are just bringing it to light.Less than 600. just got it about a month ago.
We have not swapped front to back. Only side to side. We talked about it, but it was getting way too hot and I was frustrated so we dogged it off til in the morning.I'm still leaning towards there being a steering component that's out of spec. It's a coin toss between that or damaged rims or a broken belt in the tires.
Have you swapped tires and rims front to back to see if the problem moves?
That's certainly a good way to nail down the issue.We have not swapped front to back. Only side to side. We talked about it, but it was getting way too hot and I was frustrated so we dogged it off til in the morning.
If your theory is correct, I could put the takeoffs on my Mojave, and put my Mojave set on the Sport, and get the same result! That would really drive me nuts!
I might try that experiment if the one-at-a-time swap doesnt work.
That's a pretty fair indicator that's it's tire/wheel.I'd definitely find a place to do a road force then. I can almost guarantee it's a wheel problem if it shakes consistently at certain speeds on different roads.
???If there’s shake, it’s because something is allowing it. Unless the tread pattern and wear and alignment just happen to be magic together.
Got to check all the parts
We decided, based on everyone's input, that we'll swap the tires/wheels on my Mojave with the takeoffs. Then put the Mojave wheels/tires on the Sport and drive both first thing in the morning. This should answer a lot of questions about tire size, weight, width, etc. and whether suspension/steering components on the Sport are marginal and being excited by the change.That's certainly a good way to nail down the issue.
Louisiana in August. Hoooooweee!
You won that bet!Putting my money on your Mojave is going to shake… but I’m a terrible gambler.
Now why am I not the slightest bit surprised by any of this?The verdict is in... Two bad tires/wheels. We've been switching tires and test driving for about 3 hours and can definitively say that two are bad, two are good.
To start with, we put two of the takeoffs on the front of the Mojave. It shakes like the Sport did.
Swapped the right front with another takeoff. Still shakes.
Put Mojave wheel back on right front. Still shakes.
Put the last takeoff on the left front. No shake. Marked it as good and direction.
Tried each of the other three takeoffs on front left. One no shake. Marked it as good and direction.
Tried the other two takeoffs on right front. Both shake.
Tried one of the good takeoffs on right front. No shake.
I think we covered all potential combinations and confirmed that we have two good ones that we an use as full size spares and that direction does not matter. I just hope it is the tires and not damaged wheels.
The moral of this story is... Dont buy takeoff wheels from random people on social media marketplaces and expect them to be completely honest.
Thanks for everyone's input and assistance on this. Hopefully this will help someone else down the road.
Just wish I knew how they got messed up. Did the guy run over a 4x4 on the highway??? Definitely nothing obvious on the outside.Now why am I not the slightest bit surprised by any of this?
Glad it's resolved and proven to be just exactly what was expected -
truck = fine;
tires/wheels != fine
