Looks like 2023's will now fly off the lots because this "major announcement" was the automotive equivalent of my junior prom night: lots of anticipation ending in utter disappointment.

The reveal had everything I hoped for except Gobi or Gator.

Well shit... I was ready to order a 4xe. That was very disappointing. Between no 4xe and the UAW shenanigans, looks like it's going to be a Tacoma TRD Pro with the hybrid for me unless Toyota dealers try to bend people over with "market value adjustment". (or Wrangler Willys 4xe ;))

I've been seriously considering the Tacoma but eagerly awaiting this announcement... and I think I'm headed back to Toyota. On paper the Trailmaster is a solid platform. I'd miss the ability to take off the top and doors but I doubt aside from the front Freedom Panel I'd go full naked rarely.

If the JTM had a Hurricane or 4XE I'd be singing a different tune but the Pentastar leaves a lot to be desired. It is a strong and reliable motor but it is underpowered for the vehicle and its capability and gets pathetically bad MPG.

Tacoma’s motor has similar power specs and no available V8.

Look, my first car had a V8, and I've had multiple other vehicles with V8s. They're great, they're fun and they make a lot of power with a very satisfying amount of noise. I will miss V8s when they are eventually outlawed and daily life becomes a certain Rush song.

Keep this in mind: Due to CAFE fines being doubled by the current admin and them whacking Stellantis with $572M in fines as, the likelihood of Jeep dropping one into the Gladiator from the factory is as good as Giselle Bundchen taking sexual pity on my slovenly ass and my better half not only being okay with it but joining in and letting me film it for posterity.

I was just talking about their V6. I personally dont have any interest in a hybrid.
Naturally aspirated V6 is dead for 2024, they're all turbos now in the Tacoma, ranger and chevy. Chevy is 2.7 turbo 4, ranger 2.3 turbo 4 and 2.7 turbo 6, Tacoma 2.4 turbo 4

I am happy with the 3.6. If they offered the V8 and 4XE, I would still buy the 3.6.
