Anyone done it? I'd like to become more proactive and not risk them being stolen and sold on the black market. The money could fall into the wrong hands and we'd have a full blown crime epidemic to deal with. Just trying to do my part to America a better place.

I've never heard of a successful theft of a catalytic converter on a gladiator. These aren't your typical design that can just be hacked off with a saw. They are bolted directly to the manifolds behind the fender liners. Not saying it can't be done, but the typical thief is going to pass on that for something easier.

Do let us know how it goes though!
I have to wait until someone unlocks the new ECM to change O2 sensor input, I was just seeing if anyone had done it on a truck with the old ECM.

I’m sure there’s enough of us that would like too that would fill a stadium or maybe a community hall. This makes me think of my neighbour. He restores and tunes classic cars for a living and has been published in the Hot Rod magazine. Every time he fires up one of the classics he’s ready to move out, it STINKS. The exhaust smell just coats your clothes. It’s tuned, they’re just missing the cats.

Now that’s on classic engines. I don’t know if running no cats on modern engines would smell the same or not.

I guess what's the difference between deleting a cat to prevent it from being stolen, and a cat being stolen resulting in you straight piping it? Are you going to "hold on" to the removed cat forever for intrinsic value? Kinda sounds like you're just stealing your own catalytic converter at that point...

Most people delete cats for performance reasons, not as an anti-theft measure. And on this truck, I don't believe there are any gains to be had by doing a delete.

OP is being facetious and glib about the stated reasons.

Just curious how one would deal with the downstream o2 sensor?

You'd have to flash the ECU or use an aftermarket ECU - and you would hurt the value of your truck since it can only be registered in places that don't do emissions testing.

And there's the pesky "federal offense" thing for tampering or removing emissions equipment. States and the EPA do take action against individuals in these cases.

Fairly easy to avoid. Now, I know some states check for the ECU to have a factory tune on it. That would be a problem. But for most anyone else (at least, on say, a GM LS engine), you can just set the rear O2 sensors to not report a light. The emissions check (at least here in Louisiana) is only checking that the emissions system is reporting, and that their is no MIL - they aren't checking the actual values being reported.

So, on my SS Camaro I could just throw on long tube headers, 'turn off' the rear O2 sensors, and get a sticker and no-one would be the wiser. However - I have been shopping for 'green cats' to go with my long tubes once I get around to it as they will function like OEM, my rear O2's can stay active, and the car smells better when you are around it. A note on this - I have noticed many companies selling headers for newer vehicles will not offer them packaged with off road pipes. Only cats. If you want to go cat-less you have to buy the headers only and then source off road pipes separate.

Now, my '93 Chevy step side with an LS swap does not have cats and the rear O2 sensors are turned off, but they do not do emissions checks on anything 1995 and older in this state, so not breaking any regulations there.

Reiterating - on my newer car I prefer to keep systems intact. It's pretty easy to do. On my older project truck where the regulations are almost nothing - I don't worry about it.

As for the OP - the cat's on these trucks are buried. If someone can cut them out and steal them, they will have earned it, lol.

Do not report.
So will that work for the emission readiness test for the catalyst? And can you tell the system to not report a code in a 2023?
