Iam looking at dash cams for my jt and am wondering what you guys would recommend. I've watched some reviews on brands like thinkware, vantrue and viofo but am still unsure on which is the better buy. Viofo and vantrue can take up 512 gb SD cards but each have their cons. Thinkware supposedly has an excellent parked security mode but doesn't accept the bigger SD card size.

Iam curious if anyone here has any recommendations.

I use a Blackvue 580 series. 2 channel so front and rear. Yes it needs a separate Blackvue GPS receiver but its not a big deal. Fabulous picture quality, with 128G card in it I get about 28 hours of both channels recorded before it starts to overwrite old data. Mine is wired to my SwitchPro 9100. One odd thing is though I turn it on and off there's a tiny yellow (I think) lead that needs constant power.
I have exact same in wife's Cherokee, my F350 and son's Honda.

I recommend the Thinkware F200 Pro (2-Channel with parking mode of hard wired) for a higher end feature packed option. If you’re looking for a budget camera you can’t go wrong with Garmin. I have a Rove R2-4K that I use when I’m traveling with rental cars which isn’t anything fancy but accepts up to a 512gb card.

I still use my BlackVue DR650-2CH. It's I think 6 years old at this point and still doing great. GPS tracking, live feed, event detection and recording, auto-uploading, auto-parking mode, the works. And it's low profile and out of the way. (Believe me, the last thing you want to do is advertise technology in your truck with the giant dashcams with built-in screens).

I've even used the footage from it on a few occasions to help with others, like a hit-and-run that happened to the driver in front of me. I was able to pull up the video, download what I wanted, and instantly share it to the other driver while we waited for the sheriff to arrive. Hard to beat that.

If something goes wrong with it, I'm 100% buying another BlackVue, probably along the lines of the 900X.

Dash Cams are going to come down more to what features you want vs. actual video quality. A lot of the sub $200 dash cams on Amazon and elsewhere are using the same somewhat outdated tech but that is because of the economy of scale to bring them into a price point most will buy.

Most of the dash cam brands on Amazon are just using the same sensors and tech from like 2-3 different companies just rebadge and repackaged into different housings.

I am currently using VIOFO A119 dash cam and have been happy with it. Linus Tech Tips did a decent video talking about the tech and doing video quality comparisons that really showed very little stand outs from each other and more expensive did not equate to better video quality.

I use a Garmin mini 2, plugged into center console for those doors and roof off games where I don’t trust passers by.

That's a good point. Also with higher video quality comes less recording capacity. I've read alot of positive reviews about the viofo a139.

It's all personal taste. I have a Garmin, not hard wired for parked security.
Just use it for psychos while driving.
I've bought numerous different dash cams from amazon for the past ten years(also for protection from psychos). But since I've got a dashcam on each of my vehicles, I tend to just buy the cheap $30-40 basic models. They all have G sensors on them that automatically save footage in the event of an accident. The Garmin is nice, but it's also quite pricey compared to a basic, discreetly installed dashcam package that could be put together for under $70. ($35 Dashcam + $15 obdii power adapter + $15 micro SD card)
