In the fall of 2013 I tried to trade in my 2011 Silverado. Terrible trade in offer. Too many leftovers on the lot. Drove it six more months and it was worth $2,000 more on trade. No leftovers to compete with. I buy on A plan because of my wife’s job, so it wasn’t buried in the price of the new one.
Be Patient. The value will recover.

Not exactly sure why we think this is horrible value other than so many folks over paid by stupid amounts. This sounds like standard used car depreciation for everything but 2022 when it went stupid. The gladiator is still on track for about 60% retained value after 3 years and even better if you bought it at its real selling price, not msrp

I really didn't buy mine looking for a trade in the future I guess. I got it to upgrade it and make it what I wanted and then keep it until the wheels fall off lol or pass it to one of my kids. Everyone has a different path though and I agree prices are crazy. Maybe it will balance out eventually.

Looking at BMW 7 series now.
New 2023 = ~105 - $130k
Used 2022 = ~$65-85k

I guess it's all relative. I'm not entirely convinced prices will go back up either, shortage or not. The average Joe can't afford to buy and they certainly can't afford the interest rates. They think they can...maybe for a little bit longer.
Explains why 77% of new BMW's are leased. Nobody expects to have equity in them at trade in time.

Why are there so many threads on this lol.
So true. And comparing now to other times is also not really being apples to apples.
Economic issues, interest rates, coming out of covid times, still dealing with supply issues, I just don't get the obsessions with Gladiator values.
Is it that so many bought believing they'd be constantly updating/upgrading/trading and getting better and better deals? Or coming out ahead?

You’ll get different trade-in values from different dealers in different states at different times. You can even negotiate trade-in values. It’s not a science.
Just baffling this attention to and wringing of hands over values. I can't recall seeing it in other groups
(unless you watch the AMC Eagle fakebook posts and there people swear the values should never go up and freak out if someone sells or even lists one for a bit more than 5 years ago - I mean they get rabid about it! What? Are you on crack or something? They'll never be worth that much!)
I can't recall seeing such concern over trade or other values on a vehicle.
Buy it, drive it, enjoy it. If you are doing this thinking you should be coming out ahead in the future, or are ticked because now you can't trade for the same money you paid 2 years ago - time to take some more economics classes.

Frankly, the world has bigger issues to deal with besides the value of the Jeep you bought 2 years ago.

I don’t really care what the values are now. I bought mine intending to keep it.
I thoroughly enjoy it.
Exactly.
I may care in a couple of years if they come up with a decent 4xe version but that's just me dreaming.
Otherwise, this one does what I want when I want and has been trouble-free so I don't care.
I suppose if a person is using it on their net worth spreadsheet, listing assets for a bank loan, it might matter......

Absolutely a product of the market. The real jeeps (JL/JT) will go back up a little, but it is what it is.

Repo rates are high, interest rates high, delinquent loans high, prices and rebates falling, Inventory time on lot increasing, it’s a shit show. The dealer I do business with I check the site weekly, they’ve had new trucks and cars on the lot since May, that I saw when I was there last. The WK2 Jeep grand Cherokee and the Durango totally fell on its ass for resale earlier this year probably the worst I’ve ever seen, I had a 22 R/T Durango that I got out of for a Ram HD and did fine but man that thing lost like 20k in value shortly after.

That said, trucks are holding the best. HODL and enjoy your Jeep. I’m never gonna sell mine, I love the thing.

Meanwhile we have 1996 diesel F250s with 150k miles going for 40k.

I still like my JT. Someday I will want something else and I'll dump it for what I can get. But for now I'll enjoy modding it and spending $$$ on mods. This week it's 37s and a re do of the suspension and gears. It's only money and I can't take it with me.

I like to look at values after 7-10-12 years of ownership. They will be very good.

Also note, I think they will kill this model in a year or 2. When they do both short sellers and long term holder's values will go up.

I value this thing more in my driveway, ride and life more then I do selling it.

Just saw a 23 20th anniversary JL Rubicon with a 392 and AEV package(37's) $116,615.00 ?
There's a dealer selling a AEV JL 4XE for almost $100K. They also have a used 392 JL for ~$90. The prices are insane but somebody is paying them.

Buy to enjoy, it isn't an investment. Pay cash, maintain and keep it ten years or more, ignore the market ups & downs.

My local dealer had a $10k off deal going, took off another $2k and gave me a "meh" trade on my 10 year old F150. Wrote them a check for the balance. Hope to keep it until I'm so old they take away my license and have me playing shuffleboard & bingo....which at 78 may not be that far off!

Same I bought mine during covid and was able to secure a good deal. Otherwise I would not have purchased the truck and kept my ram or bought a new 1500
Costco has a good network with dealerships so we got a Costco price HAHAHA plus it was a pretty good dealer incentive discount too.
