When doing battery work last weekend I noticed a very thick buildup of sludge (probably just dirt adhered to oil seepage) around this area. Pretty sure this is the camshaft position sensor.

This is an old picture so no visible leak here - vehicle was relatively new here.

Anyone else ever report having leaking in this area? I'll try to get a better picture later today.

Yes... it happened with only 600 miles. I was leaving peepee stains on the driveway, felt like my old Harley :). Covered under warranty. They showed me how the gasket was actually mangled when installed at manufacturing. All fixed

I thought valve covers also, only to find out it was the hydraulic clutch on the alternator, not a cheap fix

That’s what I thought it’s not like it’s really going to make a difference in gas mileage

I'd say you have bigger problems - someone stole your TPIM ?

something is clearly leaking. Question is, since this would be considered a seep, is Jeep gonna do anything about it?

Im starting to not feel so confident in long term reliability.

Tell them it's leaving oil spots on the driveway.
That got more attention when I went in for the transmission leak on the JLU.
It's like it wasn't a big deal unless it was leaving puddles on the ground and getting all over the exhaust pipe.

Maybe consider replacing it yourself? On the other hand, since you have no tools nearby, might be tough.

You can always wash it off and keep an eye on it.

All good options. I was thinking of washing and observing - just to make certain it wasn't an oil spill last the last oil change. But I doubt it. I do have a small bit of tools, and thus far it's been enough to get me most of the way through the build. But for the sensor, I'm not sure if any specialty tools are needed. I would hope it would just be that 8mm bolt, and an easy swap - but..... I keep forgetting to hose down the engine bay when I swing by the washer too. Theres a couple other places I want to just clean up to keep an eye on.

I hope I don't have to remove my engine cover to look for leaks now. My carport has a few stains from my other trophies already.

Oh and found out my tool box, back at a friends house, will actually fit in the basement. So next summer I should have most my tools back. Although getting it into the basement will be fun. I'm sure the winch will come in handy ?

Mine never came with a engine cover.

I'm afraid that is why you found the leak. I will have to hang it on the wall like many others do, right next to the TDI and crown vic covers.

If I had an engine cover, I've got a spot for it next to these.............
