One of my buddies had one in his truck and when we were deployed he took it for his truck. He was a good guy got cut down by a shotgun blast though the door serving a active warrant on a s### bag in 05.
Sorry to read that. Rest in peace ?

I bought my first "suit" that wasn't a dress uniform a few years back and ended up wearing it for multiple funeral services starting less than a month after I got it. My friends wedding was the first time not a bad occasion since I had it. On the bright side of my suit I need to get it tailored for a better fit again. Now I just need to get it back from the trip.

For the civilians out there, you are looking at the Combat Infantryman Badge in matte black subdued metal for wear on fatigues (BDUs, battle dress uniforms).

"For award of the CIB a Soldier must meet the following three requirements: (1) Be an infantryman satisfactorily performing infantry duties. (2) Assigned to an infantry unit during such time as the unit is engaged in active ground combat. (3) Actively participate in such ground combat."

And usually the stories are reserved for only the friends who have been there, best told over a bourbon.

I give them to my grand kids but I don't do the ducking. Never been into it. They like playing with them.

Today I was headed home in a semi-depressed state (not medically, it runs in my family but it hits anyone at any given time) . Even though I had a great day and fun with my wife and kids, but I had stuff on mind and had a funk. Then I looked at my dash and I noticed something....I must've left my Jeep unlocked (more details in a sec) and someone snuck a new duck on my dashboard. And I smiled. I smiled and I felt thankful for a simple kind gesture in humanity. And I immediately thought of how the "ducking" started...a simple act of kindness to spread joy in a tough time. I've owned Jeeps off and on for 25+ years...ducking wasn't a thing. Today I didn't know I needed it. Don't resist the ducks, you never know when you need a smile, and today I was thankful for it.

Circle back...got home and my wife says "by the way you got ducked" I said I noticed, she mentioned she had to go out to the jeep when we were at the resort and saw it on the handle so of course she put it on the dash. Didn't minimize the story, just how I needed it in that moment.

Pass on the ducks, pass on the smiles.
Been waving at other Jeeps since ~'84. They don't always wave back, but that's ok... I'm waving at the Jeep. If the owner waves back, great!

Don't remember when I first heard about "ducking", but it sounded to me like yet another great way to promote Jeep enthusiasm/culture/lifestyle, or whatever you want to call it, and possibly brighten someone else's day, so I keep a few in the JT to pass out when I get the chance. Heck, I even remember to do it every once in a while. ? ? Couldn't tell you how many times I've driven off after admiring someone else's rig, and then thinking ?‍? oops... should'a ducked them. LOL

My wife would love that picture, she loves the Grinch.
Me, I want the Jeep in the background. I might even let the Grinch drive it...with a duck on the dash of course.

I have 3 grand daughters (GD) and they all really enjoy ducking the other jeeps. A few months back during the summer we rode out and passed out 20+ ducks. So, now every time they visit, they want to go out ducking. My 5yo GD really enjoyed it so much she wanted to buy some ducks herself to pass out, so of course I've purchased more. So, on her next visit during the holidays we are going out just to duck other jeeps. :)

This is so true. I recently had a work trip to Seattle and did a crap ton of walking. I know it's good for me but I gotta be honest, I was in pain. Finally worked my way to where I was parked and came up on a Duck in the handle. It made my day and the pain slipped away for a moment. It was much appreciated.

I know a friend of a friend who has JL, says the gladiator is not a real jeep, hates the hand waving to the point of flipping people off as his return wave, really really hates the Ducking and changed his grill to the angry scowl after market grill because he heard it was a way to send a message to others that he was not into the jeep culture. I never heard that before but he thinks its helping :) Whatever makes you happy... it always makes me smile every time I get a duck. I just don't keep more than a couple and I pass the others along.
