It's more primatitive utilitarian Expedition of The Americas style installation right now. Working on a trim skirt and roller fairlead integration at the moment. But it is bolted right to the rear crossmember using the bolts that hold the hitch on. I'd love to pass the cable through the hitch but side loading would destroy it despite looking cool.

Not to play armchair quarterback, but I'm not sure I'd trust that install in a hard pull. Looks questionable.

The winch is mounted to a 7/16 plate which is cross bolted through the rear crossmember. the winch is in compression and to displace would need to crush the crossmember in two axis thus pulling the frame rails together. How hard will this 9k winch be pulling?

It is not, I assure you, sharing space on a plastic bumper with a stiffener insert.

But yes, do share your thoughts as this was a discussion and not a tyrany.

The pictures weren't that clear and your description of bolted where the hitch mounts had me thinking it was simply bolted to the middle of the stock cross member.

It IS just bolted there but to a massive bit of plate so that the winch centerline is aligned with the crossmember centerline. It, at a glance, looks janky AF mostly because I almost never wash the jeep, haven't polished/waxed it in years and all the plastics are aging. It's gritty-chic, I've sprayed brand new trick bits flat black just to blend them in.

Rear winches may not be for everyone, I find myself out alone or with the winchless from time to time and sometimes winches are for recovery and sometimes for buddy access.

This winter’s big project for me (not yet started) is going to be a diy rear bumper with a rear winch. When it begins, I’ll share progress. I’ve been wanting a rear winch for a while, but don’t want to go the receiver mount route I don’t think.

I get it that sometimes you get into things that you find just aren't "crossable" and the smartest path is that path that led you there, only backwards.

Once I figure out how to load my Polaroid pictures here I’ll show you how it’s done. I used black duct tape too so you can barely even see it on my Badlands winch.

The baling wire works GREAT to jump the poles on the solenoid too, so much easier than dragging a winch controller around, and it allows me to keep my head level with the line pull so I can see how the steel cable is doing as I wind on it.

My next mod will be upgrading the winch hook to one I found on AliBaba that looks just like the chrome one from Smittybilt. I hear chrome hooks are way stronger.

Forgot the tinfoil or penny as a fuse. Penny lasts longer but it may be the last Jeep you'll ever own.ight burn to the ground.

I'm expecting the small positive pole goes to the aux switch, negative to the fender ground, Large poles go one to the battery positive and winch positive and winch ground goes to the fender ground.
Other hardware needed will be a mounting bracket, a short lead from the solenoid to the battery, and some rubber terminal boots.
