Ridge Grapplers are good but I just got Falken Wildpeak R/T and love them. C rated.

Looks like a cross between Wildpeak M/T and A/T.

One thing i never see answered... is it bad for the transmission to be running larger tires without the regearing?
Yes. You are forcing the transmission to compensate for the lack of proper gearing.

It’s not bad unless you go too big.
...or the gearing is too low.

My JLU came with 3.45 gearing from the factory. It was an absolute dog on 35s.

The 8-speed automatic does an excellent job of masking the issue, though. Which is both a blessing and a curse.

It wasn't until I was able to read on the instrument panel on which speed the transmission was at any given time that I realized how bad things were. The transmission rarely shifted into 7th speed, and had stopped shifting into 8th altogether. It spent most of the time between 4th and 6th speeds, keeping the transmission under constant strain.

I had the Jeep regeared to 4.88 and never looked back.

BTW, this is how you show your tranmission's current gear

Best advice I got about regearing is to not go through it/pay for it unless you change the gearing by a point. It is almost negligible change in rpms going from 33 to 35.

That’s why I like them. R/T (or hybrid) tires are the best of both worlds
Have you driven in the rain yet with those tires? I’m interested in hearing how they handle in the rain…the Wildpeak AT’s do pretty well in the rain but if I bump up in tire size I like that the R/T’s are available in 35 x 11.5 size. Also on my last Gladiator I put on 35 x 12.5 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT’s on my Mojave and they did fine with the 4.10 gears.

As others stated, you’ll be fine with 4.10s and 35s. I’ve been doing it for almost 2 years now (wow time flies), no issues. I’ve put about 25k miles on this setup.

Idk if anyone else mentioned it but if you tow heavy a lot, then maybe that will bother you. But hey, I still say try it out with stock 4.10s before regearing.

I run Maxxis 35s on my max tow 4.10s and I haven't had any actual problems so far but I definitely don't love it. BUT I do run heavy all the time (decked, rack, rtt) and really heavy when I'm loaded for adventure. It struggles. Even in Florida. Currently thinking about either going down in tire size or regearing. But of course my thought process is if I'm going to regear I might as well go deep and gear for 37s.

Hello, I’ve got a 2022 v6 Gladiator Rubicon with stock 4.10 gears. I will be going from my stock 285-70-r17 (Wildpeaks 63lbs) tire size up to 35-11.50-r17 (Ridge Grapplers 66lbs) tire. Does anyone have any experience with this setup? I do a fair bit of highway driving. My hope is that I can stick with the 4.10 gears. Thanks everyone!
You will be fine I just put on 35x12.50x17's and I got the same Jeep you do. 4.10 Rubicon with a 3.6L V6 and it does fine. Alot of guys do good with 37's (for which many aren't really 37" more like 35.5-36.5. ) I still see 7th and 8th alot.

I run 37" BFG KO2 load range C and I still get 8th on flat land. (Rubicon w/4.10) I think you're going to be fine. Even the stock 33" Wildpeak AT tires that came with mine it would still downshift to 7th to climb minor grades. Living in San Diego, (born/raised), we don't have much flat surface to drive on so I speak from some experience.

All that being said, drive it and see how you like it. I bet you say you wished you went to 37s! ?

I'm running 35x10.5 17s on my 22 Rubicon 3.6 and don't feel the need to regear. I've lost a couple mpg and see 8th a little less but it does fine even while towing. If I ever move up to 37s I'll regear but my skinny 35s are fine with the 4.10 gears

With the 8 speed auto gearing is more personal preference than anything else. It's a double overdrive. It was never intended to "hold" 8th gear under anything other than light loads. Hill, headwind, acceleration it should downshift. 7th is still an overdrive gear and equal to the highest gear in most previous transmissions. The math is easy, a standard gladiator with 3.73s and 32s is nearly identical to a JT with 35s and 4.10s (4.08 to be exact). If you rarely drive freeway speeds then gearing low won't have any negative effects. If you live out west where freeway speed limits start with an 8 and many of us set the cruise control at 85mph it absolutely will in my experience. Our JLUR was better on the freeway with 38s and the stock 4.10s than it was after gearing down to 5.38s. It was actual .5 second slower 0-60 too as the trans had to shift an extra gear. With the 4-1 transfer case it never needed any extra crawl ratio so I can't even say it was better off road. As far as 8th gear, of course I saw it a lot more often, like any speed over 40mph. What it needed was a 9th gear as it makes no sense to be in the top gear by half the speed limit with nowhere else to shift. 4.56s and 35s is not extreme as far as low gearing, but in our 2022 jlur that came with that exact setup it still felt like the freeway rpms were a little higher than necessary. Definitely wouldn't spend the money on a regear from 4.10s for 35s personally. Even my JTM on 37s feels good on the stock 4.10s. There I think 4.56s would be better, but not $3k better. I take the regear advice with a grain of salt just like the mpg threads. Most of the guys pushing for lower gears have already spent $3k on it and therefore have some confirmation bias. Most of the guys touting 20+mpg in their gas JTs end up posting average speeds in the 50s or lower. If you drive slow enough you can run around in lo range if you want really deep gears, but to each his own.
