I ran 37's with no regear for 2years with no problem. If you have an auto, you will never see 8th gear. I reprogrammed for the 37's but never did the regear. I had 4.10's already.
Ditto. I drive 70 with 4.10s and typically in 6th gear on level road with minimal load. I get 16.5mpg if no head wind. In town mileage sucks. Is this a good combo? No. Does it work? Yes. Does it hurt the transmission? No. Am I going to regear? Yes, to 4.88. Why? To get transmission shift points back closer to factory. I also pull a 2000 lb boat so need lower final drive gearing. Don’t over think this issue. In my view the 37s are preferred over 35s. Regear and never look back.

If you have the money to buy the tires, don’t be cheap and not regear at least soon. Ask 10 people for their opinions yet you don’t realize that all 10 People drive very differently. Some people baby 37’s off the line and some punch it off of the line. The one’s that punch it off the line do a little bit of punishment to all their drivetrain on their Jeep. Everyone drives differently. Drive it for a couple of months without a regear and then regear properly and you will notice a BIG difference…….. FOR SURE!

I ran 2 years with 4.10s and 37s. Regeared to 5.13 and regretted it, was way over geared was in 8th gear by 45mph. Now jumped to 40s and runs much better.
If you run the numbers going from 33s to 37s with 4:10s it calls for 4:56s. I ran 4:10s with 37s for a while. I didn’t like the shifting. It was like driving a cheap underpowered car revving way to high to climb hills.

One can can do whatever one wants if they choose to ignore the issues. But with the extra weight we carry 4:10s on 37s are not great. I went to 4:88s and it’s great. 5:13 are too high and are weaker gears than 4:88s.

You’re going to love the change to 4:88s. My JTR is very built and heavy and I get 17.5 on the hiway consistently. The shift points are way better than with the 4:10s. Which I kept for a few months after going to 37s.

Exactly this??. Those in rural flat land without traffic would says it's fine, but being able to do 80mph+ in the fast lanes in Cali traffic highways is the different between getting somewhere 30mins early or 2 hrs late. We all knows how tempting it is to spend couple grands on some cool exterior mods, but once you're in the driver seat, all you will feels are drivetrain, suspension and steering.

Plus, who the hell wants to gets pass by some Prius ?

I'm retired so I am pretty much around town and the Max Tow's 4.10s are fine for my 37 KO2s . If I wre still traveling for work at 65-75 mph I would regear so I could use all 8 gears and it would be even better around town .

I agree. I just havent had time to get the rig regeared yet but doing do this summer. Thanks for reaffirming the 4.88s are good choice. I don’t rock crawl with it, just over landing. .

Driving with 37's without regearing is a pleasure but because i have jamborees coming up i will soon regear to 5.13. It's a $5000 job at the local dealer, but recommended for any rock crawling. Plus i do live on a hill and 2nd is not quite low enough. Will be nice to have a usable 6th gear (never really was, even with 33's). I'm guessing i will be happier with the 5.13 range and might often skip first.
PS i have a manual

What type of tires and wheels are you running for reference? I am going 5.13s with my Toyo MTs 37x13.5xR18 on Fuel Beasts
I was running stock Rubicon rims with BFG KO2's. I just switched to Fifteen52 Turbomac HD Classics a couple of weeks ago - which I also REALLY like.

$5000k for a regear? That's double what I paid, and I used Dana Spicer gears...

Lots of good experience listed here for different types of drivers and uses. I am interested in anyone with a Mojave running 37s and what the actual tire height is under your load and if you needed to add a spacer, lift, springs... Its my under standing that under load the Mojave will work with 35in tall tires.

I'm sure i could save money by shopping around, but not sure i want to risk going to non-dealer. Double gets me thinking, though.

Others can chime in, but I'd rather take mine to someone who specializes in gearing than to a dealer who rarely does gears. If you ask around your local Jeep club I'm sure they will give you some reputable names.

I suppose the only advantage to taking it to a dealer is if they somehow included that work into the Jeep powertrain warranty?

... and you do live in CA, it's possible that $5k is fair out there. In Ohio it's definitely not :)
