Chips are so common here they fix them on the side of the road under small pop up tents. Broken windshields are a way of life in our small city.

Edit: Clear nail polish will work for smaller chips in emergencies.

Safelite quotes me at $170 to fix a small chip. That seems high..?

Also, this Jeep windshield vulnerability thing is no joke. I've of course read about it, but figured "I'll never be that guy who goes through windshields like that". ...I'm only at 4k miles.
Covered with no out of pocket with our insurance. Call the insurance 800 number, they send out Safelite, they fix the chip, no charge.
Insurance would rather pay to fix a chip than later replace the glass.
I'd bet most insurance, at least around Iowa, would be the same. It's under comprehensive coverage.

I think there's a reason Jeep insurance seems to be going up faster than other vehicles. Everyone's insurance is rising, but Jeep seems to be a bit faster, based on my research over the last week after Geico attempted the price-gouge, forcing me to leave. I'm not saying windshields may be part of the cause, but if Jeeps are having them fixed/replaced at the rate suggested in this forum, these "free windshield repairs" are a substantial cost when companies like Safelite can charge almost $200 for a small chip. The "free" repair is not actually free.

I'm also hearing more reports of insurance companies dropping vehicle owners who claim more than a couple windshield repairs-- not all of them are Jeep owners, but Jeeps have to be one of the highest-use vehicles for this service.

It's been made clear over the last year or two that insurance companies are much more risk-averse now in an extreme way. I don't want to give my insurance company any more excuse to raise my rates. I'll get this one fixed without them.

This…. The satellite bill back to insurance was $1200 and my copay was $0 this cost will be shared.
Moving forward (had no idea $1200 for the factory glass…) we will be going with the non gorilla. Supposedly this is more like $300.

Up here in Calgary, (I chose not to have glass insurance) I pay $40 cad per rock chip. Typical price anywhere here. Also, windshield replacement is $260 cad.

Last year or so, a glass company near me, (Go Glass) has their “rock chip” warranty which repairs “unlimited chips” FOREVER even if you change out your windshield, for $120 cad.

I bought their warranty and have had at least 10 chips repaired already.

Well today I got the crack. Never herd a thing, just there it was. A small crack starting at the top and going about 10 inches and about 2-3 inches from the top. Took it to dealer for pictures and a warranty approval. My Gorilla glass is exactly 2 years old. They better cover it. Just wondering if there are any tips on install of the new one on how to avoid wind noise in the new one.

Here’s a question, since the new JLU and JTs have the antennas in the windshield, would any of you ask for that glass instead? The antennae connection is inside the front passenger kick panel under the glove box.

Safelite is like any other repair business. Some of us take great pride in our work others not so much. Any company that tells you a repair will come out perfect.... run. They are full of shit. Many of mine do come out barely noticible, but i can see everyone.

If I go to do a repair I'll be honest with the customer. 99% of the time expect it to still be visable, usually about 50-70%, but structurally it will not spread... how visable is hard to say, so i shoot a high estimate. Depends on weather/sun/luck/amount of contaminants. I've always had good luck doing them with only one customer complaining, in which I had him follow me back to the shop and speak with the manager (I've got nothing to hide, I did my job correctly). First thing the manager did is apologize, get them scheduled for a replacement. Part of the apology was that I didn't make it clear that it would be structurally sound but visable, customer immediately interrupts, Mr Shouse made that 100% clear but your commercials made it look perfect. If course I'm birder line rolling. I tell every repair that, with the stipulation look, let's try it. If your not happy they'll waive the fee or take it off the replacement cost, why not give it a shot and see. 99% are happy when I explain that look in a week it will look like a bug splatter, you'll never notice it....

I have yet to come across this... I have never had a built in antennae be an issue, and while I only recall one 24 jl (I think it was a sport) I have never seen built in ant. On a jl/jt. Heater grid for the ADAS system yes, but never ant. If anyone has a picture of this can you post it? This may be something new. I'm off work for 2 more weeks and on short term dis. From surgery or I'd check NAGS, they block your access if on leave.

Only time I recommend oem over aftermarket is if you have to have the little emblems, or you have a Honda or subby with ADAS... your post has new wondering though, and i text a district trainer asking if he'd heard of this, if I hear back I'll let you know.

I’ve managed to get a cracked windshield and yes it’s Gorilla glass. Jeep has only 6000 miles on it. Made an appointment with safelite and demanded original oem Gorilla glass. i have an appointment July5 th coming to my house so I can watch.
In the mean time my son in law told me about ultra bond here in GRAND junction , Colorado that actually invented glass repair and do cracks larger then 12 inches ? So I went to them this morning and they said , you were going to replace for this ? Said no problem easy fix. My cracks and bulls eye were about 1 inch diameter on upper left sort of corner but plenty of room to repair. The tech who has been doing this for years and many a day kept trying but didn’t come out that well. Said He’s never had this problem. They said they have done some gorilla glass with no problem. The owner has contacts with owens corning and gonna contact them to see if they changed something ? I was wondering if anybody on here has had a gorilla glass just repaired ? I am also wondering if I should go with regular glass in case of future repairing ? I also see Gorilla glass is not available when ordering Gladiators now just Wranglers ? All the 23 Gladiators on dealer lot here don’t have the gorilla glass. My dealer told me they have a gorilla glass in stock. I checked today on that. I have a feeling Safelite is going to show up with their glass anyway ? What should I do ? Jeep came with this glass ? I have insurance with 0 deductible on glass.
Why aren't you taking it to the dealer for warranty coverage?

That is a crock of shit for Stellantis (Jeep) to hide behind not having a dealer that does glass work to not honor the warranty. Stellantis is the warranter regardless of the dealership situation. At a minimum if warranty replacement could not be had, they should have refunded the cost of the Gorilla Glass.
My dealer was not a certified glass installer, but Jeep Cares lined me up for warranty replacement at another nearby dealer.
