Drop-ins are objectively better for actual work. They absorb impacts much better and after you pull them, the bed looks brand new. I’ve had them all. Currently I have a factory spray. If I used my bed for more that grocery’s and harry-homeowner duty, I’d find a drop-in like a responsible adult.

Drop a man sized log (by hand)in the bed, and then dance around like a clown because your spray-in communicated the force more directly and left a dent. Skip the diatribe about how a log dropped from a skid steer at 12 feet would dent through both.
I have lineX... but I initially bought a drop in. I definitely think if I was doing something heavy duty, I would temporarily install it.
Spray in is definitely more sexy and great for non-impact duty, but you are correct, if I'm potentially dropping bricks or logs, I would have better peace of mind with a drop in.

So I figured I couldn't go wrong with both?

I got rid of my drop-in a while ago. I tried to sell it off, but no one wanted it.
Same here. I have tried to sell dirt cheap and even give away free two pulled drop in bed liners in the past with no takers. Wound up having to Sawzall them into pieces small enough for trash pickup to take it.

Just pulled mine out after four years, no abrasions, no rust. Bubkus. It may depend on the style of the drop in. I washed the bed, rubbed in a heavy coat of unbuffed past wax, rinsed the bedliner and popped it back in. I think the wear and rust saga has become an old wive's tale.
That’s good…. Others might not be so lucky. Removing ( the drop-in) periodically and checking is a good idea.

I’ve seen folks go many years without checking and they discovered a huge rust problem. It all depends on the drop-in, where you park ( water getting underneath it), where/how you drive (smooth roads vs rocky roads/ trails and how you use the bed for hauling, etc

OR…. Just buy a Tacoma with the composite bed. ?

Exactly what I ended up doing.

I'm in the middle of shopping for a drop in bed liner, I don't want to drop $1,000 for a quality spray liner and I shouldn't be doing anything beyond what a quality drop in liner would handle... I just don't get why RealTruck has theirs listed for $279 and my local dealers want $380+ tax and the Mopar part seems to be out of stock locally, my dealers aren't able to order it, the one that does have it wants $100 over MSRP for it.

The ones available from the mopar dealers want $300 for shipping.

I might just end up biting the bullet and going with a spray in liner... thoughts, anyone?
Checkout Weathertech's Impactliner.
Even though I have the factory spray in liner I just added the Impactliner from Weathertech. Great fit and easy to clean.

I think I'm going to be getting one of these. I was able to get them to send me a picture of one installed in a Gladiator. They don't actually show one on their website or on the Amazon listing.

That's nice, I like the fit. Good as long as you don't stack anything higher than its walls.

A couple months ago I traded my white 2020 Overland with a factory bedliner for a 2023 High Altitude without one. I have a RSI Smartcap to go on it, and a bunch of stuff that I carry around. The ImpactLiner should work fairly well for what I need. I have cut way back on using the bed for actual 'truck' stuff since trading the Duramax for a Gladiator five years ago.
