If looking to change out factory battery set up which of the following options would you go with and why?:
  • .Genesis dual battery set up
    • Nice set up for overlanding maybe.
    • Have heard hard to get/source group 25 batteries in short order. In other words without ordering.
  • .New Antigravity battery (lithium) and disable auto start (Tazer or auto-start eliminator cable)
    • Lithium battery long life and lighter weight.
  • Or would you just leave factory style battery and replace with like kind when time comes and disable auto start (Tazer or auto-start eliminator cable).
    • Ease of sourcing batteries.

If you don't need extra and reserve battery capacities for camping, the easiest and most cost efficient thing to do is to simply bypass the auxiliary battery. It takes maybe 15 minutes and it effectively takes the aux out of the game.

As far as disabling ESS, you can use a doo-dad, lay down the hood plunger, or get in the habit of pressing the button after you start up.
I've done it for so long it's just like pushing the start button and buckling up.

I did enhance the visibility of the button for low light conditions.

Ignore the part about it disabling ESS in the video. ESS will still function, but just with the main battery.
You have to disable it via one of the other means described above.

You cannot put lithium in these vehicles. It won't work - well it wont work for long. The Gladiator is designed to work specifically with an AGM battery.

If you want to have an auxiliary 'house' battery and use lithium for camping that's a good option, but you will need a DC/DC system. Directly connecting a lithium battery to your main system is asking for problems.

A few people in the past have said 'you're wrong' and gone with lithium anyway against all recommendations. All of them realized after a few months it was a bad way to loose a lot of money. Some of them ended up stranded. Heed the warning, do not simply remove the stock battery and put in a lithium hoping for better performance. You will be disappointed.

Your question implies, without saying it, several different things you are looking for. Nailing down what you are trying to do first is best. Do you want to just eliminate the aux battery? Are you trying to add a aux 'house' battery for camping? Are you just trying to save weight? Do you want to prevent ESS? Answering these questions first will help guide you in the best direction for your needs.

Why do you want to change the factory battery setup? What is the end result desired?

Lithium is not a good choice, unless you are in a year round mild climate. The battery would also need to have a charge controller, either built-in or external. The charging system in the JT is designed for AGM batteries.

The easiest and best upgrade is to replace the factory Main Battery with a high capacity 94R (H7) battery. The Main and Aux batteries are paralleled together all the time, except during the startup test and during ESS events. Having a good Aux battery actually provides a small increase in overall capacity.

I have the latest generation Genesis dual battery setup on my 2020 JT. Absolutely love this setup. It just works. I don't think about it.

I have a fully stock system.
It just works. I don't have to think about it.
When the batteries go, I'll go buy the very best AGM batteries I can get - highest CCA/AH numbers, largest physical size and just move forward.
Everything works perfectly on my 2022.

What are you trying accomplish.
I have the Genesis dual battery system, but I use the second battery mainly to run a fridge in my bed. If eliminating the ESS feature you don’t have to drop the money or add weight for the dual battery system, I removed the wires off battery and off N1 terminal, and placed a jumper between N1 and N-3, pulled out the battery and everything works including ESS but I am also putting in the ESS eliminator, cause I just can’t get around shutting the engine off letting the oil start draining down and restarting over and over again, and I hate pushing the button. There are numerous threads with detailed drawings and lots of info about pulling the F-42 fuse and such, search is your friend!
Comes down to what do you want……Jack

I am also running the genesis system, the newer version, purchased and installed a few months ago. Really nice being able to run accessories off the bed outlet when I am camping and not have to worry about the truck starting in the morning.

I also have a deep cycle marine battery in a battery box - I used to use it with a trolling motor for duck hunting, but now it serves as a redneck jackery, can set it up in the tent for charging phone / running lights etc.

As others have said, there are many options, but whats best for you kinda comes down to your goals.

I have bypassed and removed my aux batt. ESS is disabled even though it doesn't happen often on a manual tranny. My intention is to replace the stock primary battery with a larger size that fits the stock battery tray when it fails. There was a thread related to that battery size swap, though I can't quote it right off. My notes say it was an "H7 agm" battery that will fit and give a bit more capacity.

Same, 2022 JTRD. So far no issues.

I kept the aux system, just because, but didn’t go with Mopar. My main is the biggest Optima battery that would fit the space and was recommended a higher crank amp aux as well. That’s worked out great so far. Now for the added “duel battery”. I now have a 200w solar blanket and battery box from HARDKORR, Australian company. For now, the factory AGM Mopar main starter battery is in there which powers my 65L fridge/freezer and did awesome last year. Now I have the solar blanket to keep that charged up.

I don't see a lot of posts about this type of battery tech used in Gladiators. So thought I'd make my Gladiator a guinea pig.

For context...

- I live in the San Francisco Bay Area where it doesn't get HOT or COLD
- My Gladiator is parked in a condo parking garage
- Prior to the battery swap I've been running the Aux Battery Delete for about a year. Antigravity also states not to connect their batteries in series or parallel. So I took that as an AUX Battery Delete is requisite
- The battery that was swapped out was an Optima AGM H7
- I have Parasitic draw but who doesn't, can't be bothered to track down the usual suspects
- Installed hood solar panel to counteract said parasitic draw
- Daily Driven but a really short commute, the other reason I installed a solar panel

It's been a week so far and no issues as described by other folks on the interwebs about these types of batteries. Like the BMS disconnecting the battery when the alternator puts out more than 14.4V and ambient temps outside of 33-113F. To be honest those two conditions are the only issues described by some folks about these types of batteries and maybe half of those folks heard from another guy who heard from another guy who heard from another guy who read a post from another guy online. I paid a lot of money for this battery so yeah... I was on the fence for a while.

Check back for updates and please share any "FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE" with this specific battery or similar.
