Yup, exactly as you said. Gladiator is slightly better around town where the aerodynamics don't matter as much and slightly worse on the highway.

Of course driving style comes into play, but this is a decent benchmark to start with.

Just give me one with the 420HP inline 3.0 . The 5.7 V8 would probably get the same MPG. I don't want a hybrid anything. Every electric vehicle is coal fired to charge it. The Tesla Cybertruck is sitting on the lot here in So Cal.

I guess we will see the results in towing and payload whether this is a good move. I’d love to see the actual mpg of these 4xe going from point A to point B 300-400 miles later at 70mph…you know the real world mpg and not hypothetical “if you only drive 20 miles per day and can plug it in”. I truly wonder if the 4xe will gain anything on the 3.0 with all that added complexity.

not that technology isnt great but sometimes simplicity is the better more efficient option. I chose the gladiator because it was relatively simple, basic and I could do all the work myself. Opinion: Wranglers and Gladiators are only useful if someone handy can do 90% of the work on them. Some of these hybrid batteries will kill you if you mess up working on them.
But the vast majority of people only drive 20 miles a day 300+ days of the year. So that is "real world" situations.

The wrangler 4xe is the best selling phev in the USA and that powertrain was 40% of wrangler sales for 2023. There seems to be a good demand for it.

And those of us who don’t fall into that category drive diesels ?

You gentlemen can keep dreaming of a V8 Gladiator, but it ain't gonna happen from the factory.
What I want to know is how big is the gas tank going to be? If they rape it down to 17 gal. like the Wrangler, I won't want one...

The gas tank will likely stay the same. All the back seat storage will be replaced with the battery pack and electronics.

Yeah I doubt Jeep will make it accessible. But, if they listened to their customer base at all, it would be an awesome feature....just saying. They would have to find a way to convert their main system down to 12v for general accessories, and then 110 for an inverter. But I highly doubt it will happen. It's really the only way I could ever justify getting one let alone even being interested in it.
So... Toyota did it with the Trailhunter (and ostensibly the TRD Pro and other Hybrid Tacos but nothing is concrete on them - yet.). The TH's 2400w inverter can be used to run nearly anything. Clay from X Overland used it to power an air fryer camping for example and the motor will kick on to recharge the battery pack as needed.

That's a seriously interesting and potential game changer for the camping/overlanding world- having effectively a generator/Jackery battery built in. Doubtful Jeep would go that route but it is rather interesting, and with a MY25 debut they have enough time to really go outside the box if they want.

2 mpg 'isn't much' to an individual, but it's literally hundreds of thousands of gallons to Jeep's total energy impact score.

Even though you may take longer trips on occassion, most trips most people make are under 20 miles- which in theory means you almost don't burn any gas, just your electric useage.

It is HIGHLY unlikely you'll ever get a v8, especially now that the 392 has been canceled. Unless things change drastically, it aint gonna happen.

The current 4xe wrangler has 375/475 hp and torque and is fairly quick.

This is supposed to be a new generation and they are hinting that they expect it to be more powerful and have better range.

I look forward to seeing what they do with it. I'm hoping they do more of a 'range extender' as they are doing in the ram.

Thats pretty cool. I have zero interest in Clay or X Overland since they turned their noses up at a spec ops vet who started a overlanding group for vets and first responders. I lost all respect for Clay and his 'team' when that occurred, so I dont even give them the 'numbers' of watching their new shows. Total garbage from what they used to be IMO.

But it would be a super cool deal and a total game changer. It's pretty neat Toyota decided to do that, I bet that makes them taking the lead again for sales. Although, I think it still important to have a converter for a 12v system because a lot of things still run on 12v. Pumps, heaters, fridge, lights - heck almost everything really. It's surprising they threw in that big of an inverter, pretty cool. I really hope Jeep follows suit, but I honestly doubt they will. If they understand their customer base they will make that an option.

Yeah let's see some real world statistical numbers on that. If you are basing that solely on coastal cities then that number is WAY wrong. I have a 160 mile round trip to get to town and back, not including drive time in town for which to get to the south end is another 20 miles. Most people seem to fail to understand that there is a very wide and vast amount of low density population interior to the US. I could see that number being more realistic at 60 miles a day for an average. But not 20.
