Should I purchase this Gladiator?

Hi,

I'm new to the world of Jeeps and looking to purchase my first Jeep, a 2020 Gladiator Overland. The truck has 53,000 miles on it. Fully loaded. While reading the carfax, there is a note that at 50,000 miles, valve lifters were replaced. Is this an issue to be concerned about? On one hand, you could say this was good for the engine and there shouldn't be any more problems. Or, this is the first of future problems and stay clear of this truck. I'm not technical enough to know what causes the valve lifters to go bad. I'm hoping someone can help shed some light on this topic.

Too much imo.

In my area for example, I’m seeing 2022 & 2023 Overlands listed for that price range. 10k+ less miles too…in some cases 20k less miles.

I’d pass on that one you found personally.

Edit: 2021s and 2022s. The 2023 I saw was a rental use. I’d probably not consider that one either.

valve lifters were replaced

Mine were replaced it at 83,000. Others I knew had those replaced under 20,000 mi.
Anything can fail on any vehicle at any time.

You are coming up against a wall of the powertrain warranty running out and assuming the lifter work was done correctly and actually corrected the problem.

Has all the signs of somebody souring on it and kicking the can to somebody else. I would not jump on it.

I typically ignore any carfax stuff about things like that.
There's a TSB out there that says if the owner complains of a ticking sound, replace the lash adjusters (what some call lifters)
That could be all it is. No big deal, IMO.
It means that a problem was taken care of.
You could buy any used one that's had NO work done on it only to find that is should have had work done because after 2,000 miles, it blows up on you.
Or - you can buy a new one and have that happen.

The "lifters" are REALLY "lash adjusters" and that's all they do. Apparently Jeep has had some issues with some, thus the TSB. I don't recall the model years that covers, but I'd also be happy with new lash adjusters because some of us were speculating that the early ones could have been leading to some other issues.
In other words, me, I'd see that and move right past that part.

I'm not saying run out and buy it - I'm only suggesting - that's no big deal at all.

Makes me wonder how people would react if they saw in a report that my wife's JLU had the transmission replaced at under 8,000 miles?
Some stuff you just have to let go.
Any future buyer should be thrilled to see her JLU has a replacement transmission!
The factory installed transmissions had defects that could not be fixed - they leaked through the case.

Earlier this summer, they were offering me over 40K for my 22 Overland............ with about 18K miles at that time.
Interesting that mine could be traded in for more than what those are listed for.

He could buy mine, complete with oil analysis reports, no engine ticks, steel front bumper, and I could go buy a new one.

If you're worried about it, get a bumper to bumper extended warranty. For me, they've paid for themselves on three vehicles I've owned and every car we buy gets one. From the dealer, the price on them is always negotiable, too.
