What do we need to remove, disable or disconnect…to defeat the big brother spying? 2023 JTRD.
What would it take to have a toggle switch to disable all connections like cellular and sattelite? This needs to be easily switchable. I like having WiFi and XM Guardian, but would like to have the ability to bug out at the flip of a switch.

After a while these threads get absurd. They bring up Big Brother, Nannies, and Tracking. None of that is going on. There is nobody sitting in front of a screen watching where your truck goes. Stellantis and the three letter agencies don't give a shit about 99% of you. Everyone else, the cellular carriers are already actively tracking your phone for the interested parties.

These trucks report their location through the cellular network to the Guardian servers. Unless you report it stolen and request assistance, that's all there is. The satellite connections are receive only for the GPS and SiriusXM Music and Travel. There is a programmed set of data that the truck regularly uploads to the servers. Nothing is done with the data that may affect you, unless you have an active Guardian subscription. A Guardian email response to a condition that may need dealer attention, from that uploaded data, is what started this thread.

Most of you have already made up your mind, and are not going to listen to me. You do what makes you happy. The truck is not a threat to your privacy or security. That could very well change in the future.

Toggle switch? Not possible. It's not like something you can simply turn off or on by breaking one circuit.
So you want to flip a switch, rob a bank, then a week later flip it back and drive like nothing happened. Just kidding......... or am I?

Why would someone want to turn it all off sometimes, or not other times, unless........

I'm the 1%, I guess.

About 5 or 6 years ago, I'd have agreed............. that's when I was outside, coming up to the house from my shop and saw a black SUV with dark windows (no, this isn't some X Files thing or from Men in Black movie - I'm not kidding)
I went into the house and two men got out of the SUV and sort of looked around a bit - and knocked on the door and introduced themselves only as federal agents and wanted to come inside. I figured this could be fun, so said sure, come on in.
One guy came in while the other walked around the house, looking in windows, and looked over the garage, then came in.
They asked who else was there. Just my wife and I.
The guy who had been outside asked if he could look around inside.
Sure, why not - if you like cats, dirty dishes and stuff
Then it started......
You have 3 bedrooms just for the two of you?
Yeah, the one is a really tiny room, suitable for a toddler at best, isn't that how most houses are made these days? 2 or 3 bedrooms? The other is a GUEST room for when my wife's friends come to visit, or my older son visits from FL........ not sure that convinced them.
Then they asked - Is there anyone in the garage? It's a big garage.....
I have classic cars and my wife and I each have a Jeep, and I've got a lot of large, antique engines. Go out and look, if you wish, but it's a total mess.......

(They totally ignored the big 2 story shop building with heat and AC in back! Heck, someone could LIVE in that building!)

Then they started asking when I had last talked to my youngest son.
I said several years.
You mean as a father you haven't talked to your son for years?
Yeah, that's right, I've not seen him or talked to him in years......
There was a lot more back and forth - they asked if we'd written or used the internet to communicate - nope, not at all.
They couldn't believe it. I said - that's how it is if someone doesn't want to be found. DUH.
They asked if I knew where he was. I said - how could I know that? (I know the part of the world, the hemisphere, but that's it.)

A lot more back and forth, them arguing with me and I finally stopped them and said - no, I'll never see him, I know what he's done, and I understand why he did it, I get it and it makes total sense to me, I understood his motivation and the thinking behind it - which blew them away, made them speechless!
I told them I knew how he thought, how smart he was, creative and exactly how his mind worked - because like me, he's got severe ADHD.
They said that's the first they had ever heard of that.

I really blasted and insulted them - I said, you mean you have been looking for someone for years, and have no clue about him? You had no idea of any of this?
You didn't profile him or anything, or get into any of his past records?
Nope, they had no clue.
I basically told them next time to go looking for someone - do some homework and know what sort you are looking for, and try to figure them out a bit, and said this conversation is over.
I've not heard from the men in black since.
My other son said he had a very similar conversation with a pair of feds a few weeks before they visited me.

So, yeah, sometimes those gov't agencies are interested, but if they are like those clowns I met, you've nothing to worry about - they are too bloody stupid to find a young guy, former Navy, from a hick town in a farm state. I don't think they even knew he'd been in the Navy from how they talked.

I've had other chats with the FBI on other matters - and I'm not at all impressed. Keystone Kops.

I am not trying to enter into a political argument. I just would like to be able to disable communications and tracking immediately if necessary, hopefully to never need it. We do not know when the war will come, and what will be done to round up opposition. Being ready to bug out is looking like a good plan.

I share your concerns. This is just the beginning of things to come. We'll all be forced into electric cars that the gubbamint can disable at their whim, and track our every move. ICE vehicles and gas will be taxed to hell and back, along with crazy registration fees to force us out of affordable ICE vehicles. I recently went to camping world to look at generators. JUST LOOKED. I never looked at their website. My wife's phone popped up with generator ads from camping world. How's that happen? Anyway, my JT was specifically ordered with barebones minimum electronics including manual locks and windows. I unplugged my door to delete the crazy "safety" feature that disables the vehicle when the door is open. Nothing safe about that except for car jackers.

You will need to stop ALL phone use, including land lines, even HAM radio.
You'll need to stop using power from the grid. (signals can ride the AC current in the lines - proof of that is intercoms that work strictly via and electric outlets in your home)
You will need to constantly wear masks, change them frequently, as well as your clothes and shoes to hide your height and weight.

Yeah, we are into something like thread 4 or 6 on this very topic with the links and articles in several of the posts in those threads.

I recently went to camping world to look at generators. JUST LOOKED. I never looked at their website. My wife's phone popped up with generator ads from camping world. How's that happen?
You or she probably had your cell phones with you - leven some of the standard apps, but especially fakebook, instacrap and more track such things. They track location for targeted marketing. Old news.
Learn how to secure your phone, or leave it at home.

I unplugged my door to delete the crazy "safety" feature that disables the vehicle when the door is open. Nothing safe about that except for car jackers.
Where's that forehead slap icon again???????
Right, guess you haven't followed news, lawsuits and so on, and haven't been reading threads already here about that. It's to protect idiots from themselves. Yeah, I mean some Jeep owners.
I posted a while back about the person who took their car to a body shop to have some work done - body shop employee moved the car to get another in, left it in their lot and got out. Car was not in park. It rolled backwards onto the highway and was subsequently hit and totaled. Could have ended up with a death or two.
You'll be thankful for some of these features someday - but then since you disable them, I'll look for your name in the news.
There's been more than one incident where a child was hurt - run over, cars damaged, and of course the most famous one - a death of a Hollyweed star, because the vehicle moved after being exited.
But since you are smart enough to NEVER have any of that happen to you, go for it.
Oh, nearly forgot about the time our automotive instructor's foot was run over....... yeah, such a safety feature would have prevented it. People are people, and get distracted, think they know better and so on. Proof out there with all of the accidents related to a vehicle not being secure before being exited that it just isn't the case.

Believe me - more than once I wish some of my old cars, classics and so on, had a few more fail-safes.

I'm not a mean person, so I honestly hope you never find out how you being smarter than all other drivers ends up with trouble.

along with crazy registration fees to force us out of affordable ICE vehicles.
BTW - you want crazy registration fees - own a PHEV and see how much THAT costs to register. Apparently, those in power can't do math and "assume" rather than look at real world figures.

Skynet.......
Some are so uptight about certain things, and the future, they forget to live today.

And people think *I* am the loony one.

A few need to drink some nice strong green tea, and switch to dark chocolate, at least 80%, get off the coffee.

You read all kinds of info on the internet,(it's gotta be true, right?), but anyway, I read once where all cars manf after 1996, were chipped so that they could be located by the powers that be. True or not, the technology is there. I seem to believe that the creature comforts and reliability of the new jeep, out weighs the archaic CJs and YJs, but if you dont want to be on grid, buy one of those and leave your cell phone at the house. It is amazing that I made it my 1st 40 years with a landline only, and a non computer controlled vehicle. I still own 3 that are untrackable. Good luck finding out what all they cram into their computers. My wife has a 2012 Caddy with "non-used onstar" and ever so often, on star calls her thru the car system trying to sell a subscription to their service.

LOL - the internet.
When worked IT/security for Compressor Controls Corp - my then boss called it the
"misinformation stupid highway" (as opposed to the supporters calling it the information superhighway)

Anyway, not true - to be true, all vehicles would need a means to transmit location and have some sort of GPS location device, or cell service embedded.
Back then about all that would be possible is to record the last few seconds of direction, speed, acceleration/deceleration. Then you'd need physical access to the vehicle to obtain it. Only with the advent of OnStar and similar could it be accessed remotely.

Then of course where I live - if I take my JT to the back of our property, say, around where my shop is, GPS and satellite radio stop working. We're in a dead zone.
Even my drone has trouble updating its home-point when I set it down to launch it. Sometimes I have to carry it off property and up the hills a ways for it to function properly. Then a while back, I was using it to monitor the new bridge/culvert they are installing on our west side - damn near lost the drone because of signal loss in that area.

So if anyone wants to hide bodies, or stolen vehicles, I know a place.................

You are very verbose in your response. Are you trying to say that you don't know what it would take to be able to toggle switch off the Gladiator's built-in communications?

I am not speaking for @ShadowsPapa , but while you ask a simple question, there is not a simple answer of a simple toggle switch diabilement of the built in telematics without crippling the head unit in some other regard. The GPS, LTE, Bluetooth and WIFI are all interlaced to some degree.

The subject has been brought up multiple times in the past and it is always the same result that these headunits cannot go totally black off grid without disabling other features that most do not want disabled.

Unlike the Airplane mode built-in to your phone, the cellular equipped head units are designed to be constantly active and connected to the cellular network. The only thing you can put a toggle switch on to stop communication is the power wire between the head unit and the fuse box.
