I got into some BIG rocks last weekend over at Uwharrie NC. It tweaked the rear drive shaft and now it vibrates worse than it did before. Adams said they will re-tube it and cover the labor but I will pay for shipping and the tube. Anyone ever ship a drive shaft across country? It's gotta go from TN to Vegas. I don't know if I should try to box it or just slap a label on it and get it insured and call it good. It is dented and the weld is really ground off so its a matter of time until it fails completely. Glad I kept the OEM one in the shop.

If you have a local driveshaft shop, see if they have a shipping tube you can buy.

Good idea and I can ask. I've even contacted one of the local off road shops in Nashville to ask who they use for shaft service. They don't have one. You would think Nashville would have a reputable shop. I'll see if UPS has a box.

How much you actually saving doing all this vs. buying a new one and having it shipped?

Well a new one is $1050 and I figure I'll probably have $400 in a repair after shipping and all. That's why I was wondering if anyone else has done this. Just to get an idea of the cost.

Cool, I will admit I am ignorant on the math of something like this and was wondering.

Yeah I'm pretty unimpressed with the shafts. The main plus for me is the availability of u-joints out in tiny town USA if I need them and I can change them on the trail if I had to. Otherwise, it was way too much of an expense for what I got. And there's driveline vibration. Not bad but it's there.

Check with Knoxville Driveline, they might have a box or maybe a better solution to shipping it across the country to get re-tubed.
They are the local go to for shafts, but they will probably just want to sell you one of theirs.

were all the weights there?
I have adams on both ends and I have zero detectable vibrations outside some tire shimmy which is to be expected on a 42

Yes all the weights are still intact. The larger weight on the slip yoke has a chunk ground off it. It's a tough shaft for sure but with a spiraled dent it will eventually break. Before the damage, It's not a bad vibration but it's there. It's always had a slight vibration. It improved when I adjusted the pinion angle but never went away. I have the stock shaft back on now and it's smooth as silk.

That's who Outlaw Offroad suggested but that's too far to go for a box. Of coarse I could use that as an excuse to hit Windrock on the way!! Lol. I'll see what what one of the name brand shippers has.

When I similarly damaged my Dana aftermarket rear shaft, I had it retubed locally.
