Anyone know a good shop to perform a re-gear in the Phoenix area? I am getting quotes from $3600 to $6000 to re-gear my rubicon axles …

it’s so bad, I’m literally considering getting a Ultimate Dana 60 Semi Float rear and a regular ultimate Dana 44 front axle set. It’s about 10k and I can sell my like new rubicon axles for 4K making the upgrade 6k.

if re-gear my stock axles, I’d like to order spicer gears and have it cryo/rem treated as I do a lot of towing. This is where the idea of upgrading to a rear 60 comes in.

Last regear was $1400 bucks, in California on a JK. Prior was $1200 bucks for an LJ.

I was just quoted $1,200 for labor here in MI to swap my 4:10s to 4:88s. Product not included. Just the labor.

Perfect, I have an Amazon shopping cart with gears, install kits, diff covers and chromoly shafts, all DANA parts for about 1100. 2300 would be GREAT!

Might start calling around Southern California, oddly enough, paint and auto repair seem to be better, cheaper and more plentiful…

Shops don't like customers bringing in their own parts. It's a warranty thing. You bring them bad parts or counterfeit parts (unknown to you) you find on the internet and they install them, they fail 1 month later now they are eating all that labor to replace what has failed at cost to them... it's bad business throwing away labor to save a few bucks on a unknown. Shops generally have brands and suppliers they trust that have a proven track record for that specific shop which don't cost the shop warranty time replacing a second time.

IF you are going so far as to buy all the stuff, then do it yourself.

Are you calling general repair shops or driveline/axle shops. The axles shops will probably be your best bet.

Here's a decent place down in Tucson

I get that, but I am actually supplying better parts. But counterfeit parts are not that big a deal, especially because I can get the gears from the dealer …

I called a couple dealers, jeep specific shops, I didn’t think of a general driveline repair shop. The dealer was actually the cheapest at $3600.

They don't know your parts or generally care to waste time learning about them. it's not much different then bringing your own eggs to a restaurant for them to cook.

Not sure I agree, I am paying for a service to install my parts. Like when I have a stack of parts for my handyman to install at my home …

I do not use repair shops often, but I commonly provide my own parts.

anyways, I get the reasons why they don’t want customer provided parts.

You don't have to agree, each shop can be different, I know a few owners and they rarely use customer supplied parts for the reasons stated above. They also pride themselves on quality work, so your mileage may very. But as you call around call some shops and ask what it costs for them to use their parts and labor and see what shops will charge for just labor. I suspect they are hitting you with greater labor hours to cover any unknowns with the parts you bring.

I looked around Phoenix area without much luck as to what I wanted. I wanted a clean shop like I would expect a professional shop to look like. I actually ended up going to Prescott Valley to Summit 4x4. Those guys were thorough and professional which also included a 500 mile follow up to change out the fluid and inspect the gears. I have 20k on the 4.88 gears and I run my diesel pretty hard. I would 100% use them again as I did when i had them put my lift on as well

Yes, LetzRoll in Mesa does good work and charges fair prices. Might has well have them do the trusses while it is there.
Andrew McLaughlin is the owner is a good guy!

Check with Jason or Chris @ Summit in Prescott. Standup 4x4 shop. Good guys. Honest, but not the cheapest. They will do you right though. 928.227.2026. Worth the drive up.

You might find, as I did, that many places will straight up refuse to do the work using customer supplied parts, or give you a buzz off quote.
