When my 250 was rear ended I told the adjuster that I wanted all the hitch hardware replaced, he just added it to the work order. Did not question if it was needed. It's 6 or 8 grade 8 bolts and 10 minutes.

I’d tend to agree with @rr11 The risk benefit to fractured hardware is a no brainer. If the adjuster wants to argue just remind them of the fact that they insure against future accidents that may result from a broken trailer hitch failure. 😨

I've searched and can't find 1 example of a hitch failure post accident, has anybody any examples? A tight bolt won't see fracturing forces in this type of accident in my opinion. If the hitch isn't damaged and the frame it's bolted to using multiple bolts isn't bent, how could there be any movement applying that kind of force to the bolts? I'm not seeing it. Bolts are cheap enough, of it makes you feel better swap them out, but I don't see the issue. Do you replace control arm bolts and wheel studs after you hit a bad pothole at speed?

Something looks off regarding the position of the officer's leg/foot...

At first glance it seems that way, but I think that is just a optical illusion of her footwear and is just her back heal

Definitely something slightly off, note side seam of pants. :like:
On the topic of replacing hitch bolts, definitely cheaper than a later failure. Not likely but a heck of a liability if it does happen.
A few of the things that spend time on my vehicles receiver hitch, or a rack that I built years ago, that one isn't one most people want to hit. It was tested by someone in a van on my Wrangler. :giggle:

The last one is handy to put small winch on to drag stuff on a trailer. And was on my XJ when I got hit in Savannah GA. To fast, ABS brakes plus wet pavement with sand equates to no stopping or steering.... well until the car hit the rear tire. The driver no drivers license or insurance the hitch almost in windshield.
Back to the thread; glad you are OK and minimum damage.
