When my 250 was rear ended I told the adjuster that I wanted all the hitch hardware replaced, he just added it to the work order. Did not question if it was needed. It's 6 or 8 grade 8 bolts and 10 minutes.

I've searched and can't find 1 example of a hitch failure post accident, has anybody any examples? A tight bolt won't see fracturing forces in this type of accident in my opinion. If the hitch isn't damaged and the frame it's bolted to using multiple bolts isn't bent, how could there be any movement applying that kind of force to the bolts? I'm not seeing it. Bolts are cheap enough, of it makes you feel better swap them out, but I don't see the issue. Do you replace control arm bolts and wheel studs after you hit a bad pothole at speed?I’d tend to agree with @rr11 The risk benefit to fractured hardware is a no brainer. If the adjuster wants to argue just remind them of the fact that they insure against future accidents that may result from a broken trailer hitch failure.![]()
